Re: Northeast Regional: BC vs Denver, Lowell vs Mankato
I know a couple people have talked about pregame festivities. I went to school in Worcester and still live near by so just wanted to add my 2 cents on the local watering holes. If anybody has any questions feel free to post on the board, I know the area very well and have no problem helping.
The Citizen- One of the nicer bars in Worcester and it will probably work out okay for the Lowell pregame party. They have an enclosed patio which should hold a decent amount of people. They also have a cigar spot on the other side of the bar while having another bar in the back that was actually an old jail cell. It is directly across the street from the DCU so it will be an easy stumble in.
In walking distance, that may be your best bet. There is an Uno's next door if that tickles your fancy. Armsby Abbey is more of a trendy/hipster spot. Great beer selection but not exactly a sports bar and would be a longer walk.
Within a short cab/drive
There are plenty of places on Shrewsbury St, I'll just throw some recommendations.
-I would suggest Funky Murphy's on Shrewsbury St as a local watering hole. They have a decent selection of beers and it may be a little roomier. Standard bar fare
-Brew City on Shrewsbury St is another choice with an American menu and good selection.
-Somebody mentioned Volturno as a good pizza joint which I would agree with. They have a nice bar and layout.
- If you are looking for a more "divish" spot, I would look at the Wonder Bar on Shrewsbury St, thin crust pizza and pitchers at your finest. Unfortunately cash only.
-The Boynton is a great spot too, probably the best beer selection in Worcester and has a very extensive menu. That is on Highland St which is also a short cab ride away. Just as a heads up, the place will be mobbed and parking will be tight.
-Ralph's, as someone mentioned, is another fun place. It brings an interesting crowd. Downfall is cash only. But they have a good selection of food and beers.
