Northeast Regional: BC vs Denver, Lowell vs Mankato

Re: Northeast Regional: BC vs Denver, Lowell vs Mankato

I know a couple people have talked about pregame festivities. I went to school in Worcester and still live near by so just wanted to add my 2 cents on the local watering holes. If anybody has any questions feel free to post on the board, I know the area very well and have no problem helping.

The Citizen- One of the nicer bars in Worcester and it will probably work out okay for the Lowell pregame party. They have an enclosed patio which should hold a decent amount of people. They also have a cigar spot on the other side of the bar while having another bar in the back that was actually an old jail cell. It is directly across the street from the DCU so it will be an easy stumble in.

In walking distance, that may be your best bet. There is an Uno's next door if that tickles your fancy. Armsby Abbey is more of a trendy/hipster spot. Great beer selection but not exactly a sports bar and would be a longer walk.

Within a short cab/drive
There are plenty of places on Shrewsbury St, I'll just throw some recommendations.

-I would suggest Funky Murphy's on Shrewsbury St as a local watering hole. They have a decent selection of beers and it may be a little roomier. Standard bar fare
-Brew City on Shrewsbury St is another choice with an American menu and good selection.
-Somebody mentioned Volturno as a good pizza joint which I would agree with. They have a nice bar and layout.
- If you are looking for a more "divish" spot, I would look at the Wonder Bar on Shrewsbury St, thin crust pizza and pitchers at your finest. Unfortunately cash only.
-The Boynton is a great spot too, probably the best beer selection in Worcester and has a very extensive menu. That is on Highland St which is also a short cab ride away. Just as a heads up, the place will be mobbed and parking will be tight.
-Ralph's, as someone mentioned, is another fun place. It brings an interesting crowd. Downfall is cash only. But they have a good selection of food and beers.

Best of luck to our former WCHA and current NCHC conference-mates squads. You have some really really tough competition to go through but plenty of skill on the teams from the west. Shutting out UML seems to be your best bet as getting one goal on their guy is going to be a challenge. And Denver can definitely say the reverse of that. Brittain has been stellar.

Go Pios and Purple Cows!
Thank you Cloudy BlackandRed.
Hope the Cloudies grab those annoying leprechauns by the neck and stuff them down some gopher holes full of gophs,
then bury them!

1-3-1 in the last five :o
12-0-2 since January 10th, against anyone not named Notre Dame. Just sayin'.
Can the Eagles regain their mojo?
Some very good teams struttin' their stuff into Worcester this weekend. They were winning championships, the Eagles were sitting home.
I hope to hell the Eagles are fairly pizzed off about that!

All true but I'm sure you are not happy with the way the team has played since half way through the game at Tsongas . We have been out of sorts since then

I don't think we put forward our best effort in those games. We have a number of Jr's and Sr's on this team that know what it takes to win in the NCAA's. I'm hoping they step up and lead the younger guys. We'll see what happens.

But in all seriousness, think ND just has their number.

This is the same squad that dominated Lowell for 5 of 6 periods the week before.

Give me a good first 5-10 minutes on Saturday and I'll be fine.

^^^ This ^^^

Short-sighted media 'experts' like Davey Starman give BC no hope (or little), under the banner of, 'We've seen the best of BC already.' To be sure, those are my words and not his, but they fit the narrative of those of 'his ilk.'

His disdain even extends to vociferously declaring that 'someone else' will win the Hobey.

......and beat a very tough Vermont team twice in their own barn the week before that. Not saying Denver can't beat them and I hope they do but anyone who writes off BC is a fool. If ND did figure out some magic formula you can bet that York knows how they did it and is working to defeat it. I think the only way BC is really in trouble is if the chink in the armor is Demko. In the last 7 games played (going back to that weekend in VT) his save % is only .894 which is obviously not the level of goal tending that brings teams to the FF.

I think that number is misleading. He did get hung out to dry in Game 1 vs. Notre Dame. If he was pulled after goal 3 or 4, that percentage would be over .900 no? I still think BC has an excellent chance to go all the way. I think a UML vs. BC regional final would be great. RS Champs vs. Tournament Champs with the FF on the line.

Take that Game 1 vs ND out of the equation entirely if you like. Save % is still second string level at .911 over the last 6 games. The last game he played he gave up 4 goals on only 23 shots (.826). Not pretty.

I'd be perfectly happy if BC doesn't make it that far :p
(to regional final)

Me too!! They scare me. Besides I don't have tickets for Sunday and I'd love to buy some good seats at a cut rate from a dejected BC fan.

I didn't realize he gave up 4 on only 23 that last game. I noticed some BC fans awhile back debating whether or not to start Billet instead tomorrow, so it sounds like his play has definitely slipped.

That's just newbie BC fans abandoning ship... Demko is a tremendous tender. If it weren't for the "unbeaten in our last thread" jinx from TonytheTiger he would still have a .987 sv% and a 0.257 GAA like he did up until that point.
