North Star College Cup - MN, UMD, MSU, SCSU

Re: North Star College Cup - MN, UMD, MSU, SCSU

I always find it humorous when UofM alums dismiss UMD or call it a "safety school" etc..., since, as part of what is, in many ways, one university, the admission standards are the same. If you didn't get into one, you wouldn't get into the other. (Some specific programs, at both campuses, aside, of course)

Ya, it adds to tArrogance's reputation, and the B1G in general. One of my favorite college memories was drinking at UW and the bar tender heckled me for wearing some UMD gear and resorted to the "safety school" chirp. I quickly responded with "your school offered me a scholarship, I'm not a fan of the area, and when I graduate I'll be making 4x what you make. Enjoy your tips, pour my drink, and shut your mouth." - The next two drinks were free.

Ahhhh, I wouldn't be so sure. UMD is a very good ChEn school. I know it was #1 among schools that only offer up to masters in ChEn the last time I checked. I don't think it's in the same class as Minnesota, Wisconsin, or MIT, but it's still a very good school for ChEn.

It is a very good ChE school, but different from UofM, UW, or MIT. Our program is designed to put people into industry. Employers typically love their UMD grads, its not an automatic in to the program and it usually produces hard working practical employees. UofM grads are more likely to figure out how to make bio diesel a viable energy solution, but umd grads make the paper you sketch on possible.

I love it when people who went to B16 schools say "I'm gonna make 4x yoU!!!!". When you're in education like myself it doesn't matter what school you went to.

Glad I didn't go to UMTC because UMD's education program is better IMO.

Don't oversell it now. There are plenty of U of M grads at my employer running six- and seven-figure capital projects. Myself included. There are also plenty from the other large midwestern public schools that do just fine as well.

We have a few Michigan Tech grads but no UMD grads that I know of. :D

I'm a big fan of the Michigan Tech fans that I have met. Seem to have a very similar demeanor to the UMD grads. I'm not saying that the B1G can't produce hard working employees who aren't full of themselves, I'm just saying you run into more B1G grads who will play the "I went to a school in the B1G, so I am clearly better than you" card.

That isn't an oversell, I'm fine with giving you guys tomorrow's problems!

How could you not complain about this if you were any of the other schools? The original proposition was 4 home games to 2 away, and they gophers would "consider" playing teams in the WCHA. This was turned down by both SCSU and UMD, not sure what MSU or BSU did. Like I said if you take away a sell out game a year that has big financial burdens on the smaller schools. SCSU and UMD could easily schedule a different opponent and sell out the rink. We all benefit from playing the gophers but we don't need you to keep the programs running, and the initial proposal of a 2:1 series split was insulting to everyone.

The NSCC is a great solution to have the MN schools play each other and if the revenue is split 25% then it is the perfect solution, including NOT rotating the gophers out.

Maybe you should use your noodle. The gophers would be able to get away with the 2:1 series splits but playing UAH UAA Bowling Green any AHA team who would sign up for that doesn't help the UofM program.

Care to substantiate your claim of this "original proposal" with a source? Because I have heard nothing of that.

I know your comment about an increase to a required 22 home games is wrong. Perhaps your thinking of Michigan or Wisconsin? I think you are wrong about this too.

The Gophers actually decreased their requirement for # of home games to make this tournament work for them. And don't forget, it was Don Lucia who approached the other schools with the idea of this tourney.

I do not care to discuss this on a public forum. I have sent you a friend request, feel free to accept and message me. I have already made it evident that I was involved with the UMD program for some time and do not want to bring it up any more.

Seconded. In fact, I'd do this via rep posts and delete it from here altogether. Biddy, I'd recommend you edit your post as well to remove the e-mail. :)

Well this thread has taken more turns than Mr. Toad's Wild Ride lately. From the University Degree D^ck Measuring Contest to Strange Flirting between JDubbs and DoggyTown to How to Use the Internet Responsibly in the 21st Century. What an adventure!

Re: North Star College Cup - MN, UMD, MSU, SCSU

This is cute. When I was a senior in HS, UMTC was my safety school for engineering.

This means I have the biggest dick, right? #hung

Re: North Star College Cup - MN, UMD, MSU, SCSU

I have a 2011 Championship ring made worthless by having my name put on it (Twice actually, the last name is on the outside about the frozen four location WCHA logo and overall record, first and last is on the inside with first national championship written below it). If you want to see it I'll meet up with you for a beer next NSCC. I spent the majority of my final 2 1/2 years in Duluth at the DECC and Amsoil (the couches in the DECC players lounge were way better to sleep on). I never need tickets to away games and my Amsoil key still works. Today I wore a white UMD hockey polo that was given to all participants of the UMD alum golf event on the last weekend in July. There are a lot of facts I know.

That's swell, but I've read enough errors, "I'm not sures" and course corrections to not accept every claim about their scheduling practices at face. :)

That's wonderful slap shot. I'll just go to sleep with a big ring on my finger and be devastated that a guy with 26K+ posts on an internet forum doesn't believe me. Ruined my day....
