North Star College Cup - MN, UMD, MSU, SCSU

Speaking of rules, is there NOT an embellishment penalty ion NCAA rules? I realize there were bad calls all night, and I am not claiming that call alone was the problem with the officiating, but that dive made Dino Cicerrelli look like an subtle, Oscar-winning actor in comparison.

Best dive I've ever seen.

There is, but it's rarely called.

It is under the "peeves" category of many a hockey fan: the combo of "diving" and an actual penalty. Refs would rather call that combo, which makes no sense*, than call "embellishment."

*If it's a dive, then there is no penalty. It SHOULD be the combo of the penalty and embellishment, not penalty/dive.

Best dive I've ever seen.

If it was you wouldn't even have realized it was a dive! This one was so ridiculous that it didn't fool anyone in the building except the ref.

Re: North Star College Cup - MN, UMD, MSU, SCSU

play until there is a winner and a loser.

How does that work with the pairwise? I think we all can agree that last nights game should go down as a tie in the national standings picture but we would have all loved to see more than the 5 extra minutes to decide the game.

Re: North Star College Cup - MN, UMD, MSU, SCSU

Because Pandora's box has been open. Are you going to call it a tie for the Pairwise then even if it goes 20 minutes and someone wins? If someone wins in 5 minutes now it is a win for the pairwise, right? So, you going to say if someone scores in 5 minutes then it counts as a win for Pairwise, and if they score after that it doesn't? As soon as you change the rule from a regular season game (which is actually what it is) then you're going to have the team that was tied 5 minutes into OT screaming about missing the NCAA's because they didn't get the tie in the North Star College Cup.

Sorry Scoobs I missed this before posting my last statement

Re: North Star College Cup - MN, UMD, MSU, SCSU

Have you seen us in a shootout this year...

I have after last night

Considering every analysis you and the majority of your base make is "Huskies Sweep!!!" I think I'm doing just fine relatively.

We call for a sweep every weekend, just like Dirty does. Don't let sarcasm hit you upside the head, it might knock some sense into you.

Congrats to the Gophs for the tourney win, hope we get a crack at you guys again in the same building.

Anybody know which squad is the odd man out next year?

SCSU is out next year. I think we are doing home-and-homes for the next two years, then a road series at Mariucci in 3 years in lieu of two in St. Cloud next year, then two straight years of a road series in Minneapolis.

Re: North Star College Cup - MN, UMD, MSU, SCSU

Frankly, the tournament did quite well (attendance: 14k both days) considering that it got little fan faire prior and UM promotions saturated the outdoor game the previous week but ignored a much, much better NSCC this week. As said, this tournament will get more enthusiasm as exposure, awareness increase and will only be helped by some outstanding play and close/great games this year.

IMO I just don't think this tournament is as important to the Gophers as it is to the other 4 teams in the state. It was great we won/tied but I didn't get super excited about it. Maybe that will come with time, maybe not. Its is fun however to hear the Bulldog and Husky fans whine and obsess over us and "our" new conference.

P.S. The one thing that was great about this event compared to the Final Five was the crowd was much better looking without having UND fans there

Re: North Star College Cup - MN, UMD, MSU, SCSU

I think a decent balance between players and fans would to have a 5 minute overtime that had PW implications, play an extra ten mins of OT for fan approval, and then if it is still tied have the shoot out. That would be fun for the fans without being too taxing on the players.

wait home and homes? or 2 in Cloud in 2014, 2 in Minny in 2105 and then 2 more in Minny in 2016&17?

I like it, but I don't think it would happen.

When the gophers moved to the B1G administration said they required 26 home games in order to profit for the season. Initially they were requesting many other non-conference teams (except ND and DU) to commit to a 2 series at UofM and 1 series away contract. Does anyone know if this has changed?

Re: North Star College Cup - MN, UMD, MSU, SCSU

Gopher fans know a good dive when they see one. I saw Rau teaching Gorg the finer points of flopping at one of the intermissions last year. I do feel bad the refs jobbed you the last two times you played UMD, but you wouldn't expect the number one team in the nation to fall apart after one bad call.
