North Star College Cup - MN, UMD, MSU, SCSU

Re: North Star College Cup - MN, UMD, MSU, SCSU

hey now, if you really want to be like the beanpot you gotta play these semifinal games and championship game like an nhl playoff game. if they go to overtime you play 20 minute sudden death periods till someone scores.

If we wanna be like the Beanpot, we will have to somehow convince some idiot at Sportscenter to think that people outside our state care about our event.

For some reason I just have a feeling the Gophers will tie Friday's game, get beat in the shoot out 1-0, and clobber tUMD on Saturday afternoon. They'll remain #1 in the polls and PWR.

I know there are plenty of advantages to putting this in one venue at Xcel Energy Center, but I think it would be cool if this tournament could be held at campus sites for the sake of the different fan bases.

i'm a college hockey fan, i like this north star cup idea. sorry i'm not as provincial as you.
I don't have a problem with the Beanpot. I have a problem with ESPN spending more time showing highlights of the Beanpot games than the actual NCAA tournament games.

Why do we care about ESPN again? They send tennis announcers to call hockey games, for cripe sakes. They are the only network in the history of my television watching existence to thoroughly destroy the experience of watching a hockey game.

Do you know of any other weekend tournaments that take place in separate venues?

The students don't care or have any money, and the games not involving the Gophers wouldn't sell out. At the X, it is accessible to all of the alumni in the metro area and enables them to see them live without driving an hour and a half each way and spending a ton of money on hotels.

Screw the campus sites.

I think those sites would be more oft putting for at least two schools if not more as opposed to St. Paul.

Won't happen - it's all about the money! More outstate fans want to come to the Cities than Gopher fans wanting to travel to the smaller towns outstate. Plus, what's the capacity of those arenas compared to Xcel?

My only criticism with the format is that the Gopher are eteral (I know, money), but I'd rather it be the team that finishes 4th is the one out and if that means one year we get a field of SCSU, UMD, MSUM & BSU, then so be it.

The game was to go to the Frozen Four and one of my favorite games I've ever been to. Not exactly dull and dry and if the two teams were to meet again this year in the same scenario, it'd be a hell of a game. In front of 10,000 people because of the ticket prices.

Ticket prices are a big factor, no question. As are alcohol sales. The atmosphere for the regional is dull and dry because there's no Rusty interacting with fans, etc, lots of advertising and empty seats. I've seen plenty of UMN/UND games, many at the Final Five, and they're all better than that regional was. Same can be said about the '07 regional North Dakta won. Heck, that final five in '07, even with it's painful ending, had a much better atmosphere than Denver did.

This would require a Maverick win Friday, which won't be an easy task.
