North Dakota's New Code of Fan Conduct

Re: North Dakota's New Code of Fan Conduct

Because security doesn't really care. If you aren't a drunken moron, they typically will let it slide. Most impressive was a couple years ago when someone snuck a freaking badger into REA. Now that is impressive.

The guys who get the dead badgers on the ice definitely deserve the status they're given. Long ago, I knew a guy who would freeze a dead badger in a spread eagle position and duct tape it to his back under his heavy coat. Got caught once, though, getting it ready for launch.

I understand that's the real reason why NDSU never stood a chance of getting a D1 program that would get them games at the Ralph--it's just too **** hard getting a dead buff up over the glass. Sioux fans do not walk away from a challenge, though, so I have to think someone would have come up with a way.

Trebuchet. Though that might prove difficult to sneak in as well. Much less remain undetected when assembling the thing within the arena.

I wonder if this idea would work in hockey arenas.....during the bi-annual football game with our arch-rival, we would take some of those rubber tubes from chem lab (the ones that connect the gas supply to the Bunsen burners) and a big funnel and a bunch of water balloons, a few of us would create a diversion, while the rest of us would then tie one end of a tube to each railing where the stairs emerge from below into the stadium, the other ends to the funnel, and then launch the water balloons across the field into the arch-rival's fans' seating section, then untie the tubes and slip away..... sort of a makeshift catapult without the arms so to speak. It worked well, no one got caught by "security" and the people who created the diversion emerged unscathed as it all turned out to be a "misunderstanding".

of course there was no such thing as 'closed circuit security television monitoring' back then either.

of course, that was back when "dial tone" meant you actually had a dial on your telephone

Both have their place. They are used in differnt* ways. ;)

* This is how it came off my keyboard, so I left it. :)

I never thought i'd see the day Badger fans giving up so much lip service to Sioux fans.. Gurt, you're going to be pretty busy when the Big Mistake starts up, Michigan has a pretty big fanbase.

Re: North Dakota's New Code of Fan Conduct

It's true willy...only 46% of his last 50 posts have been in North Dakota threads. Of course, only 6% of his last 50 have been on Gopher threads...

:p:D:D

Isn't it odd to think the Guru of Sioux Hockey on here thinks the Den/UND rivalry is the real deal in comparison to the UM/UND rivalry? I do, imo its indicative of you not growing up a fan of either team (growing up in Co)..

:p:D:D I grew up in Minot, North Dakota. My grandfather was a North Dakota alum, my father a North Dakota alum, my oldest brother a North Dakota alum (we won't talk about my other brother who decided to be the Black Sheep of the family and get his electrical engineering degree at NDSU), and I am a North Dakota alum. I did not move down to Colorado until about 5 years ago. Nice attempt though.

Fair enough, however I do recall you arguing/debating the UND/Den rivalry was the biggest rivalry UND has.. And you mentioning you live in Co. it was pretty simple, albeit incorrect math.

Well as far as titles go, DU is a much closer rival... I personally thought the rivalry between DU and UND hit its peak shortly after the dasher dance. I caught Gwoz outside of the Xcel that year at the final five and let him know what I thought of his cheating ways...:D:D:p

Don't mistake, I can't stand the Sioux (the team/fanbase, not the people), but the Gophers and all things Minnesota sports are on a whole other level.

NoDak fans though odd in appearance with their mullets, mall hair, bad teeth, large foreheads, squared jaws and shall we say "interesting" familial relationships can be fun, by and large.

Take their hockey seriously, but don't take themselves too seriously. Kinda like me. :)

I get more laughs out of their threads.

Plus - An enemy of my enemy is my friend (even if it's a "friend" that you're just waiting for the right moment to kick in the peanuts and then stomp on their head :)).

As for Michigan, don't worry, as much as I can't stand them, you guys will always be number one for my disdain. :)

I dont think UM or MN has any idea how heated its going to get when the Big 10 starts.. We already very much dislike one another, imagine how its going to get when we dont have the other programs we've grown so accostomed to hating for decades..

side note: fk the soldier field plan, why not have the outdoor matchup between the two programs host it at their house? ie 1 year in Madison, the next Mpls? I hate that spineless piece of crap Joel Maturi!!

No worries. In my opinion, the DU/UND rivalry has surpassed the UND/Minn rivalry. I will freely admit that I am in the minority for North Dakota fans, but I think within the diehards (which I consider myself...obviously) the DU/UND rivalry is seen as if not greater, equal to the UND/Minn rivalry. It is what it is, but DU and UND have played more important games over the past decade than UND and Minnesota have. I will say that with Minnesota being better this season that the UND/Minn rivalry grew a bit closer in my mind, but I don't see it ever being the top rivalry again for North Dakota (again, in my opinion), especially with the looming conference shifts ahead.

Re: North Dakota's New Code of Fan Conduct

Not really. Last 50 is a dam small sample out of 13,000. I want to see his count for the whole 13K too. :p

:p:D:D I don't think I could (if I had the time, and wanted to, which I don't) because I believe USCHO only allows you to track back 500 (maybe less?) posts. I did go through the last 75, and your percentage dropped to 43%...so I think that is good enough to conclude that your overall percentage is somewhere around 40-45%, which is still less than half. :p:D:D

I still contest even that. What do you count as a UND thread? Was the series thread counted? I consider that a Gopher thread. Was the thread about banning certain handles? I consider that an issue that affects ALL of USCHO, not just UND. :p

Look, the last thing in the whole wide world that I'd ever want to do is agree with you on anything, but I agree that Soldier Field is a dumb idea.

They tried that with a UW football game this past fall and SHOCKER, attendance was spotty.

Now I know that no one in your state thinks much of silly ol' football, but it's actually REALLY big in the rest of the country (in places where they're at least mediocre at playing it) and it didn't do well. How's a college hockey game outdoors going to do in Chicago?

Probably as well as a Frozen Four in a dome in Detroit.

In addition, I think that outdoor games have kind of run their course to some degree. I think it would do well up there at TCF though and you guys should have one with us or the Sioux (thought there were plans for that at some point?).

Don't care if Camp Randall ever has another one as I didn't go last time and won't go in the future. Did the Lambeau one and that, while fun, was enough. Won't go to Soldier either.

So let me get this straight, in your opinion the Sioux "die hards" think the UND/DU rivalry is greater than (bigger, more intense etc) than the UM/UND rivalry?

I dont even know where to begin with this, I'm sure in your opinion I'm "old" I'm 42, been a family season ticket holder for the Gophs since the days of sitting on moms lap at games, we've attended a minimum of 50% of the UND/UM series in ND and 75+% of them in MN, traveled to games across the country with a pretty large group on UND fans and I know those diehards (100% of them) would fully disagree with your assesment, and every UND fan I know would disagree with that notion and all of them are "diehards"..

No one gets up for a WCHA matchup like the UND/UM rivalry, wether its a down year or not.

I for one (and in the minority) am glad the rivalry is getting a breather because its gone to a whole new level this past decade. As an example a few years ago I brought my friends 10yr old kid to a game, a beer was tossed on him, the group from where it came from thought it was funny, he was harassed the entire game for cheering on the Gophers, and my car was keyed. Last year I asked him if he wanted to go up for the series and he very quickly said no and I think I heard him whisper a f-und under his breath.. Just this past weekend some friends I usually go up there with had many issues with fans up there.. I'm sure UND fans can say the same thing about visiting MN..

Imo, its run its course for awhile, the breather will make future matchups that much better.

Re: North Dakota's New Code of Fan Conduct

For the historically inclined, the Minnesota - Wisconsin rivalry started in 19th century Europe!

Until 1905 Norway was part of Sweden. If I remember my US History correctly, Minnesota was heavily settled by Swedes while Wisconsin was heavily settled by Norwegians. Their dislike for each other goes back many generations, well before ice hockey was played at either state university.

The way I hear it (no links only hearsay) is that its the Big 10's way of selling college hockey to Ill? If thats true let the Big 10 pay for it in equal portion, if Penn St, Ohio etc cant afford it, then f-em.. As a Goph fan if this is an Alvarez move then the Gophs should say go ahead, host it, pay for it, you get the revenue and we'll show up as the visitor.

Why didn't you like the outdoor venue? I have been to a few pond hockey championships and played in a few, sometimes the weather was a bear, but otherwise i liked em, but standing at a rink I can walk away from is alot different than sitting in bleachers.

But really they should both say no and start a traditional game outdoors. As a MN tax payer it irks me to think TCF is brand new just sitting there, and since im not a college football fan I have yet to be inside it. Camp Randall seats 80,000, and im sure that would be to capacity if they would put it together, thats alot of money, how cant that be justified?
