North Dakota at UNO - 1-30/1-31 - The biggest series in UNO program history

Re: North Dakota at UNO - 1-30/1-31 - The biggest series in UNO program history

You've got Warren and the huskers... Plus a few steaks.

Maybe you haven't seen the Huskers lately...and Warren doesn't do anything for UNO. How do you have the second richest man in the world in your city who doesn't support the local university?

Regulate has always been a favorite of mine. I didn't realize the lyrical poetic of 90's himself, Warren G, had relocated to Omaha. Man, maybe it's not such a dump town.

He doesn't help out his own family, no doubt he doesn't care about uno.

Warren G can be seen rolling down North O. He still has mad beats.

Re: North Dakota at UNO - 1-30/1-31 - The biggest series in UNO program history

The media blitz began here in earnest today.

I've heard several radio advertisements today and this weekend is now getting major discussion on local sports talk radio.

Just heard a live local radio interview with Dave Starman (who is doing color for CBS for Friday night's game) where he said very little about a lot. He dosey doed around many direct questions, presumably because he didn't really know the answer to them. I think the station involved posts podcasts of their broadcast. I'll try to find this one and post it.

Noticeable uptick in tickets sales the past 48 hours, too. Mostly singles left now on both nights in the lower bowl.

edit: The Starman interview podcast about this weekend will be available within 24 hours. I will post it when it is up. North Dakota fans will be happy--he spends more time talking about them than about UNO.

Here is the podcast on AM590 ESPN Radio here in Omaha with the Dave Starman interview from this afternoon.

There is some hockey talk at the beginning but the discussion and interview does not get started in earnest until the 31:00 mark of the audio and continues to the commercial break at about the 46:30 mark. Then, they return from commercial and start reading North Dakota hate email and twitter insults (none of which are all THAT funny) starting at about the 50:00 mark (as the station has designated this week as "North Dakota Hate Week") and that continues until the end of the segment:

Reading of the tweets and emails continues throughout other segments (that are archived at this link) for the rest of the afternoon in other show segments, with the best "insulter" being announced during the 5 o'clock hour (the interview was from 2:30 to 3:00).

Interesting that none of the commercial breaks during this segment of the show this afternoon contained any promo commercials the school is now running for this weekend. Note, this is NOT the station UNO games are broadcast on.

I'm not a huge fan of Starman but I give props to just about anyone who brings college hockey into the national spotlight. He is familiar with NoDak (which will show) but I think he does a decent job of being objective on CBS.

Mavpuck's Facebook page expressing it's opinion of North Dakota fans:

"Hide your beer, Omaha, because you can't spell drunk without a U, an N, and a D"?

I have to say, the weekend of the outdoor game, I saw (and heard) an astonishing number of drunken North Dakota fans.

I assume the mongrel hordes are descending upon us, yet again, from up there this weekend?

Inferior Mav fans should be thankful UND is always drunk. Think of the arsewhoopin' that would be laid down if UND was actually sober.

It appears that UND fans will not be given the welcome they truly deserve in Omaha. I guess we won't be bringing you any Tim Hortons then.

I'm going with a split. UND gives the Mavs a win 2-2 (tie in the real world) Friday. Sioux win 5-3 Saturday.

You'll get the welcome from Omaha fans - never heard of people having a bad experience here. I'm wondering if there is a way to tell the difference between a true North Dakota fan from Grand Forks and the numerous Omahans that brush off their North Dakota jerseys for their annual night out to watch their team?

Will UND give the Mavs another shootout win?

Even Nodaks learn to drool and pick their noses after they've lived in Omaha for a while.

No hate on ND fans here from me.

No reason to have any.

Re: North Dakota at UNO - 1-30/1-31 - The biggest series in UNO program history

North Dakota is flying to Omaha (a charter flight!), for the 1st time, instead of taking a bus down here:

http://www.grandforksherald.com/spo...mens-hockey-und-chooses-different-route-omaha

Like what happened last year or the year before that is any real bellwether for anything, now, or, in the future.

I think we can all make some educated guesses about North Dakota motivations here and why they are really willing to go to this giant extra expense.

Assuming there are only 40 or so people in the travel party (a big if), you are looking at upwards of 20 grand to do this on some small turboprop style aircraft (which I doubt since a hockey team's gear would likely not fit in it unless the gear itself is being sent by bus, or something) or maybe as much as 60 grand if the travel party is large enough and a commercial jet is needed.

As opposed to chartering a bus (that would hold upwards of 50 people) at a cost of under, at most, 3 grand per day. And, that number gets you a nice bus.

Great read-between-the-lines article here. LOL.
