NMU Wildcats 2015 off-season thread

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015 off-season thread

So NMU's non-hockey sports just found out that they should have to travel less for conference games/matches.

Honestly, not all that upset about losing Malone, Lake Erie, Walsh, and Ohio Dominican. They really haven't been in the league that long and didn't really have that much of a history with them. And honestly, other than GVSU owing ODU a decade of Whoopings, nobody here really got my juices flowing as a fan. Findlay is bit of a surprise to see them leaving, as I thought they would stick with Ashland. Would gladly trade them for Tiffin, but heck, guess we do need a conference doormat.

The real shocker here is Hillsdale leaving the GLIAC. Their travel costs will increase in the GMAC because they're a geographic outlyer there compared to them being somewhat centrally located in the GLIAC.

Oooh, I found money in the travel/running/fun budget for ONE hockey trip next season. I'll be coming back up for the series against Tech on March 4 and 5, 2016.

Interestingly, Hillsdale's new trip to Nashville will still be about 70 miles shorter than the trip to Houghton.:D

Not much one can do about shortening that trip to Houghton unless somebody wants to lose money on running a high speed car ferry from Manistique to Charlevoix. ;)

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015 off-season thread

Do they still have an exhibition Oct. 3 against the under 18 team?

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015 off-season thread

NMU will be serving beer at the Berry this year. You can even drink at your seat. No designated area restriction. I can't find the link right now.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015 off-season thread

I'll gladly spend $4 a few times to sample an offering from whatever local brews they will have :o

Ahh. That may be worth the 12 hour drive.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015 off-season thread

Probably better suited to a game-specific thread, but there is an Alumni Reception following the Friday Night NMU-Wisconsin game.

NMU Hockey vs UW-Madison
The annual hockey series between NMU and UW-Madison takes place on October 9 and 10 at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wisconsin. The puck drops at 7 p.m. Central Time. Game tickets are on-sale and can be purchased here. The NMU fan section is 121 at the Kohl Center (it would be great to fill Section 121 with Green or if you like to sit behind Wisconsin's Goalie for 2 periods, go for Section 101). I checked for seats today, and plenty are available. The Kohl Center is always a fun place to watch a game, and given the Wisconsin Football team is on the road at Nebraska that weekend, hotel rooms should be reasonable in the area. I would also expect a good set of hockey games with Wisconsin to be a bit hungry to come out strong after last season, not to mention a Wildcat contribution to their 0-8 start with a sweep in Green Bay a year ago!

Post Game Reception
Friday, October 9
DoubleTree by Hilton
525 W. Johnson St.
Madison, WI

RSVP HERE

Friday is Alumni Night and a post-game gathering will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton, just a short walk from the Kohl Center. Register for the free post-game gathering, and enjoy complimentary food, cash bar, and the chance to win a signed NMU hockey jersey!

Question/comments to alumni@nmu.edu or 1-877-GRAD-NMU

Legit LOL'ed at work reading through that thread. What a good read and a good amabasador for the hockey program.

Same here, great format for a Q&A with a player and he really well. Would love to see more of these from around the country! :)
