This is my best source of information for Wildcat Hockey. For those in the know, please update.

MARQUETTE, Mich. - NMU Hockey's Coach Grant Potulny has been named the 38th President of the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA).

The three-year term will begin on July 1, 2022, for Potulny. He will take over for the current President, Casey Jones, whose three-year term concludes on June 30, 2022.

The AHCA was formed in 1947 in Boston, Mass. by coaches concerned about college hockey. The association has grown over the years to support professional, junior, high school, and youth hockey coaches, as well as referees, administrators, sales representatives, journalists, and fans.

The AHCA helps maintain the highest possible standards in hockey and the hockey profession, establish good fellowship and social contact, and maintain high educational standards when coaching the game of ice hockey.

Coach Grant Potulny noted, "For over 70 years, the AHCA has focused on advancing the game of hockey in the United States. I am honored to be in a position to help move forward and advance our game at all levels of hockey in the United States".

For more information about the AHCA, look HERE.

Freshmen Forwards to NMU

Joey Larson

The NMU Coaching staff noted, "Joey Larson had a career final season of junior hockey in Muskegon. He was an every-night presence in the USHL, blending elite scoring ability and skill with his pro frame (6'1, 196lbs).

Tanner Latsch

"Tanner possesses a mix of size (6'2, 197lbs), skating, and a big-time release.

Connor Eddy

Known for his ability to blend physicality, speed, and scoring, the 6'1, 200lb forward has been a fixture in Victoria for the past three seasons.

Zach Michaelis

Michaelis, a 6'1, 203lb Minnesota native, comes to NMU from the Trail Smoke Eaters (BCHL)."Zach is a power forward that can skate and make plays at top speed. He took full advantage of his role and opportunity with Trail in the BCHL and was just shy of an impressive 30-goal regular season.

Nathan Butler (size not listed)

"When we decided to add a forward late, our staff wanted to provide an opportunity to a junior-experienced player who had the desire, hunger, and ability to push himself and others around him in pursuit of getting better on a daily basis. In addition, this particular player needed to possess toughness, grit, physicality, and a high competition and energy level. We feel we accomplished that by adding Nathan, and are eager to watch him add those elements to our dressing room."

Thanks for that Moose. I was going to continue to list all the rest of the freshmen, but I haven't had time.

A little birdie tells me the locker room renovation will be finished & unveiled this Saturday. No details on what they're doing - releasing a video or what. This project was delayed a year due to Covid. The coaches area has been done for well over a year, and they were originally supposed to do the players area summer 2021.

I drove up to Marquette in January from upstate New York for the Colgate series and I was treated very well by NMU season ticket holders near me. I appreciated that a lot.

and when we came out there to Cornell a few years ago, Syracuse and Ithaca were terrific as well.

I just arrived at the Class of 1965 Arena and there aren’t many people milling around. The ticket-taker said that the students are on Fall break. Dang!

Congrats to Northern Michigan on the sweep this weekend. Well-deserved.
I am a fan of your young coach Grant P.
And of your player Mikey Colella. He had a challenged relative (from New Jersey?) in the stands, and he couldn’t have been nicer in making sure that she got a puck. Very kewl.

AD Rick Comley mentioned tonight that next summer they will replace the ice making plant in the BEC and also reduce the rink size from 200x100 to 200x92. From what I understood they can't get to 200x85 because of the building design. He also mentioned it would help Potulny in recruiting.
