NMU Wildcat 2011 Offseason

Re: NMU Wildcat 2011 Offseason

Why TECH does or doesn't play Eastern teams is immaterial to who NMU schedules. NMU chooses to schedule teams that better fit their budget. Plain and simple. Just because Tech chooses to fly out to play doesn't mean NMU has the money to do so. Or that NMU chooses to spend its dollars in other ways, such as recruiting.

So you are saying MTU and NMU is like comparing apples to oranges. Not apples to apples. I get it.

Tech has a larger hockey budget. More dollars to spend. NMU opts to utilize their funds differently. Didn't say anything about apples or oranges. Just that NMU uses their resources in a different manner. They don't operate under the same budget. They don't receive the same amount from their conference tourneys. Tech's schedule is immaterial to NMU. Because Tech flies to the East has no bearing on what NMU does or should do with their dollars.

If I am not mistaking arent they both competing for the same thing (NCAA championship). How they get to the NCAA championship is immaterial. Both programs are similar in diffrent leagues. Both schools should be competing against the best teams to get to the NCAA's. The problem is both schools would rather go diffent directions which is stupid.

No, you're trying to compare Delicious Red apples to Granny Smith apples, while comparing both of them to McIntosh apples.

Re: NMU Wildcat 2011 Offseason

I'm pretty sure MTU is paying the Eastern schools to come visit. Where as NMU is HOSTING Wisconsin in GREEN BAY (ie: NMU will be the Home Team) in order to make money from their scheduling agreement with Wisconsin.

NMU did this in the past with Wisconsin.

Check whose direction has gotten them to the NCAA's more times since Tech beat NMU in the '81 Frozen Four consolation game. Tech 0 NMU 6.

Re: NMU Wildcat 2011 Offseason

Sad I would rather MTU lose 7-0 to NMU then St Lawarence? Where is American International? What league?

How dare you not know where AIC is. Its in Springfield Mass. I'll give you a hint about the other school. Its not in Canada or on the St Lawrence River.

Re: NMU Wildcat 2011 Offseason

Actually, I'm kind of looking forward to the series at Green Bay in 12-13. I just hope it's not on a Packer home weekend again. Does anyone know how NMU did financially the last time in Green Bay? I assume much better than if the series was played in Marquette.

Re: NMU Wildcat 2011 Offseason

I don't know the financials, but it was pretty good. Would have been better had the Badgers not had a football game at home that weekend.

Re: NMU Wildcat 2011 Offseason

Can I point out something interesting here?

This has been my observation: The NMU contingent as a whole seems very OK with the idea of not playing Tech. The Tech contingent is NOT OK with this idea. Very, very interesting mentalities.

I still think that games that generate interest locally are the ones that people circle on the calendar. Not playing leaves all the real fans left out for the
bragging rights of the Western U.P.

Probably more like NMU concerned that Tech's new regime will quickly outclass them : )

Re: NMU Wildcat 2011 Offseason

Not scheduling MTU (as of right now) was in the works LONG before Russell was fired. Err. Resigned.

From the fan standpoint, yeah it kind of does suck not playing your rival. But from the school/team standpoint.... why play a team that in Tech? NMU has nothing to gain from winning and everything to lose if they lose.

Re: NMU Wildcat 2011 Offseason

Let's face it NMU usually gets knocked out in late march, well MTU gets knocked out the 2nd week in October. It honestly makes no sense for NMU to play MTU, thinking pairwise. Also I thought this was an NMU off season thread not another tech thread!

Thats because all the college hockey news is from two hours away.

Re: NMU Wildcat 2011 Offseason

Oh, there is rumors that Anastos owns an almanac and realizes that a flight to Sawyer in January may not be the best idea... so he'd rather risk our lives on a bus to drive to East Lansing.

Possible swap of venues for the MSU series (ie: in MQT in November, in East Lansing in January). Nothing official yet.

I truly hate that man. I really do.
