NMU travels to Alaska (Fairbanks), November 1 and 2

Re: NMU travels to Alaska (Fairbanks), November 1 and 2

Y'all are making _airbanks sound like the winter version of the military camp from M.A.S.H.

Re: NMU travels to Alaska (Fairbanks), November 1 and 2

You’re forgetting your Sourdough roots. Anchorage used to be a town full of Quonset huts. Now it’s town full of Pizza Huts. Yea for progress.

So where were we…oh yeh, NMU…carry on.
That’s the dissimilarity involving Anchorage and _airbanks ……….. “Used to be “.

Back on topic…

Looks like Larson will be out quite a while. Still not sure about Youngmun. Hopefully Woods and Coyne are close to getting some playing time, but uncertain if it will be this weekend.

Not sure if it was because of new line combinations, but the D sure looked out of sync last weekend. Can’t say I was too impressed by the team effort either. Hopefully all that is getting fixed in practice this week.

It will be nice getting back into the Carlson. If the boys don’t show up ready to play they should have to give up their newly renovated locker room to the girls club team. That should fire them up.

Go Nooks!

What happened with Larson and Youngmun?

Speaking of alcohol, one fan base will be driven to drink (more) this weekend. Alaska has the advantage on paper, but NMU has historically been a nightmare of a matchup for us. It wouldn't be the first time a struggling NMU team has gone to Fairbanks and magically turned their season around.

I picked a Nanook sweep, but this feels more like a win and a tie.

5-4 final, Alaska. 'Nooks nearly blew two goal leads twice bit held on.

Maybe they just really like close games :p

It was nice to see them take fewer penalties. Two for the game, I think? I could frequently tell that they were actively laying off the NMU players, I suppose that was a bit of overcompensating, but hopefully they find a happy medium soon. Regardless, fewer penalties is a good thing.

I also got a chuckle out of the handshake after the game. Two former CCHA teams used to shaking after every game, now in a WCHA that's historically not lined up for the handshake until the end of the weekend (or was it the season series?). Players were lined up, refs looked like they were going to put a stop to it, everybody stands around for a moment looking confused, and then they go ahead and shake anyway :)

Re: NMU travels to Alaska (Fairbanks), November 1 and 2

They did the handshake after the Friday Mercyhurst game too.

I agree though it was very nice to not see a lot of penalties.

I have Alaska Nanooks on my FB Page...I am happy they won.

Doan in goal for NMU to start the game. I put a few more shots in the Alaska thread.

It'll be interesting to see how tonight's game plays out.... NMU was able to keep clawing themselves back into the game last night... Take away the dumb penalties, and we should have walked away with the W...

Hopefully the Cats can turn it around tonight... I assume Dahlstrom in net...

Alaska almost inexplicably kept taking its foot off the gas with the lead, and NMU did what any good team should do in the situation.

I predict tonight's game will be a lot tighter.

So what's up with Seckel? That dude is not right in the head. During warm ups he tried knocking over the cowbells in front of us that we had sitting on the boards, like he blatantly came over and threw himself in to the boards and then hit pucks at the boards in front of us each time. Then during our introductions he skated around in front of the student section while the rest of his team stood on the blue line.
