NMU Offseason 2010

Hope nobody's offended by me starting the offseason thread. I didn't see another one.

Anyway, I see new recruit Erik Higby was named NAHL MVP last week. It certainly doesn't guarantee success at the college level but it could mean he has potential.

Re: NMU Offseason 2010

Maybe aparch might know, but is the exhibition game vs that Canadian school going to be a Sunday afternoon affair again?

Re: NMU Offseason 2010

I guess I've made my own personal thread. :)

I don't have the links, but there's a nice article on recruit Erik Higby on the Michigan college hockey website. His junior coach talks glowingly of him.

Also, Stewie signed a contract with the Flyers yesterday along with Andrew Rowe of MSU. Rowe forgoes his senior year.

October 3rd is a Sunday, no word if it's an afternoon or evening game.

As for the October 12th game at Tech? Jamie Russell can go * himself. Enough of these bullsh** weekday games.

Re: NMU Offseason 2010

Partly marking the thread, and also asking if anyone is planning a trip to the Bemidji State series November 26-27? Yes, it is Thanksgiving weekend.

Re: NMU Offseason 2010

We are in big need of a topic.

Taking the new playoff format and applying it to last season's final standings (minus UNO), NMU still plays UA as the 4 vs. 5. Seeing as the 4/5 should always play each other no matter how the 6-11 games go, should the #4 seed be allowed to pick their 1st round playoff weekend? i.e. :they could play the first week against #5 while the other first-round matchups are going on, then the winner takes the next week off before the Joe. Or, take the bye with the #1-3, and play the following week.

What are your thoughts on the benefits/problems with this system. Would #1-3 see this as an unfair disadvantage to the #4/5 winner?

Just a topic to chew on.

I hadn't looked very closely at the schedule 'til now (outside the BSU series), but 5 of 8 OOC games on the road? It's a nice list of teams, but it would be nice to see more than 3 of those at the BEC (especially since 2 of them are Tech)...

I think it's how the cards fell. Last season we had Bemidji at home, so this year is the reciprocal year, and Denver is just (I hope) the second of a three year deal like Wisconsin (once in their tourney, once at each home site). I'm hoping next year is Denver in Marquette.

And I'm all for dumping MTU from the schedule. Either do away with the Superior Showcase, or do away with the two game series.

Last year 5 of 8 were at home. Two with Bemidji, Tech and UMD in the Superior Showdown and one more with Tech. The 3 road games were 2 at the Minnesota Tourney (Minnesota, Clarkson) and one at Tech.

Dump Tech and shoot for UNO, or some Eastern Schools.

Its also worth pointing out that playing NC vs. Tech is cheaper due to travel costs and stuff.

Dump the Showcase and put back to back games vs. Tech for the first weekend.

Re: NMU Offseason 2010

Personally, I believe we should eliminate the Superior Showcase and only schedule two games against each other. It's ridiculous to have four games against an out of conference opponent. It would be interesting to bring two different teams to the U.P. for a weekend and have MTU and NMU play each school once to bring more out of conference opponents into the fray.
