Waiting To Win It All
Re: NMU @ MTU Tuesday Night Special!!
I think this might be the first time I have ever said this, but you have to worry about Tech going into this game a little over confident. They have already beat NMU in the last week, and things looked pretty easy in the Soo. Will a young team (possibly 8 freshmen in the lineup) be able to reign in any natural over confidence? Will the leaders of this team, who should remember that they only won 5 last year, be able to keep things in line and be focused. This team is in uncharted waters right now, and the team they are going to line up against is going to be quite ****ed off and hungry, and desperate to shove it down Tech's throats in their own building. I would think Walt Kyle is also feeling a little desperate, as it seems like a bit of that good will he built up last year is wearing off from some of the locals.
Tech needs to be hungry for every single game, no matter how the last two went.
I like MTU's situation in net. Genoe and Robinson each have a victory already, and I would think that it has to be in their heads that the other is waiting in the wings. The competition is going to drive each of them to play at a higher level. I would assume that Robo gets the start tomorrow.
It also seems that for the first time in a long time we have more than one legitimate scoring line. Even when we had Conner and Murphy, there was little depth. Through 2 games, seven players have multiple points, and 12 are on the score sheet.
Defensively, we can't keep giving up 36 shots a game. I realize that we were ahead for long stints in both games, but there has to be a bit of concern. .900 is considered a good save percentage, but it still lets in 4 goals if you give up 40 shots.
I am curious to see who NMU goes with in goal tomorrow. You would like to start the guy with experience, instead of giving a freshman his first collegiate start in your rival's barn. However, it comes down to what is more important, and NMU has an important series in Miami next weekend. Conference games are always more important than non-conference, and so I wouldn't be surprised to see Coreau if Walt is intent on starting Ellingson both nights in Ohio. Playing 5 games in two weekends is certainly not out of the question, of course, but at what point do you get the backup a start to see what he can do?
