NMU Hockey 2012-2013 Season Thread

Re: NMU Hockey 2012-2013 Season Thread

The season is about three games from being half over, if the Cats can get these last three games that would be a great way to end before the break, with a .500 (NCAA) record. I would expect the second half to be a strong half for the Cats, they have an easier (not easy by means though) schedule than the first half and a couple of weeks of just practicing and getting better. Hopefully we'll see a true Wildcat finish!

Re: NMU Hockey 2012-2013 Season Thread

It's not Walt's fault Thurber acted like a **** punk. It's not Walt's fault his kids aren't putting the puck in the net. The Cats gotta step it up and want it more. They're adults and should show a hellof a lot more pride in being a Wildcat and representing all the great players who came before them!

The Cats need a coach who makes them want to step up and want it more. The Cats need a coach who has control over the program. The Cats need a coach who can run an offensive system that puts the puck in the net. Most of all, the Cats need a coach who can inspire not only the player, but the fans to have pride in being a Wildcat!

And your suggestion would be to take the reigns?

Don't feed the troll... The guy is just some asshat who gets his jollies off by posting stupid Sh*t here on USCHO.... Several people posted under the name just to get a rise out of people.... Ignore the problem and it'll go away.... You'll never get a straight answer and BWK will never come forward and introduce himself to the world....

I have a few ideas of who the Cats could start a search with:

Morey Gare – NMU alum, scout with the Oilers
Rich Metro – NMU alum, Villard de Lans (Euro League) head coach/GM
Jeff Pyle – NMU alum, AHL head coach
Ron Fogarty – current head coach at Adrian University
Tim Coghlin – longtime head coach at St. Norbert’s
Mike Eaves - (if Wisconsin were to give him the axe)

Re: NMU Hockey 2012-2013 Season Thread

Where's that ignore function? If everyone gives the clown an ignore, it's just like he isn't there. I put my faith in people who actually know what they are talking about when it come to hockey and coaches.

Re: NMU Hockey 2012-2013 Season Thread

Trying to find it Dave. Didn't know he was a troll. It's been a few years...I forget things in my old age! :)

Re: NMU Hockey 2012-2013 Season Thread

Good to see BWK stays on top of the news. Jeff Pyle hasn't been an AHL coach for a while. Texas Stars sacked his *ss after one mediocre season with the club.

I see you guys have these clowns too. This guy wants to fire the coach for not winning enough. So what does he suggest? Rich Metro from LSSU, who coached a team that consistently lost a lot of games. Mike Eaves, who can't win AT WISCONSIN!!! Jeff Pyle, who hasn't been in the college game since he played his last game at NMU 30 years ago and got fired in Austin because he DIDN'T WIN ENOUGH. And throw in a couple D-III guys. Now Fogarty has D-I experience as an assistant at Bowling Green, where they did nothing but lose and Tim Coughlin has ZERO experience at the D-I level. Quick name all the head coaches in the CCHA and WCHA that jumped from D-III? Yeah, brilliant suggestions!!! Why not Kenny Miller from the Rangers or the coach of the Electricians, they finally won. Hey, why don't you make our crew in the Soo happy and take Jim Roque!

Re: NMU Hockey 2012-2013 Season Thread

Updating the conference breakdown, the 'Cats record versus the conferences:
New WCHA: 1-0-1, 1 SOW
B1G: 3-2-1, 1 SOL
NCHC: 1-4-1, 1 SOL
Hockey East: 0-2-0

NCHC teams have our number this season. Or the B1G is that weak.

I think getting into the WCHA part of our schedule will help.

So instantly because I have the fortitude to question Walt's reign at NMU, I am a troll? Sorry that I can't be like all the Waltpologists on this board who think that season after season of .500 hockey is acceptable because "hey, there is always next year" Seriously, what does NMU have to lose by getting rid of Walt and moving the hockey program in a new direction? I would rather NMU take a gamble on a new coach and risk a terrible losing season than sit by and be content with .500 hockey year-in-year-out.

Mark my words, if Jeff Pyle coached NMU, they would be NCAA contenders more often than they are with Walt.

Re: NMU Hockey 2012-2013 Season Thread

I swear to God, the way people defend Walt's running of the NMU program, you would think they were a championship caliber team.

Newsflash: We are in the cellar of the CCHA even though we have played the most conference games. A second to last place CCHA finish is a distinct possibility this year. Do you think the big dogs in the conference would accept this kind of coaching performance. We have had far too few tournament appearances during Walt's tenure to justify the blind support shown to him on this board

Is that the same Jeff Pyle who missed the playoffs the last three seasons he coached? The one who didn't advance past the second round of the playoffs in 10 of 13 seasons? The one who finished under .500 the last four seasons, three of them with one of the best organizations and best GM's in the ECHL supporting him? Yeah...sure fire contender there. Guaranteed. Bring in a guy who hasn't been around college hockey in 30+ years, has had a losing record his last 4 seasons as a head coach and guarantee that he'll make the program a contender. Yeah and the Cubs will win the World Series. The Lions will win the Super Bowl and the Toronto Maple Leafs will drink from Lord Stanley's Cup!

Re: NMU Hockey 2012-2013 Season Thread

Davyd, do you know if Rose and Thurber are going to be back tonight?

Re: NMU Hockey 2012-2013 Season Thread

According to Wellens:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Sr F Matt Thurber is skating with NMU this morning, but no sign of Fr F Justin Rose, who was suspended and injured. <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%23nmuhky">#nmuhky</a></p>— Matt Wellens (@mattwellens) <a href="https://twitter.com/mattwellens/status/275997693749374976" data-datetime="2012-12-04T16:19:12+00:00">December 4, 2012</a></blockquote>

Yeah right......those are all great guys, but give me a break. Walt would eat all of them for an afternoon snack.
