NMU Hockey 2012-2013 Season Thread

Re: NMU Hockey 2012-2013 Season Thread

When you are going to pass LSSU for most NCAA championships as a CCHA member? :p

I predict Michigan in 3 but like I said earlier, I am definitely rooting for NMU.

What have you done since then? :D

Frozen Fours? Conference titles? Playoff titles? Anything? :p

Where's Scooby at? Simple math sez 9>3 no matter what league it was earned in or what era. :D

In other news, Alaska and WMU are the only programs in the CCHA never to reach a Frozen Four, let alone a NCAA regional final, so go taunt a program that you guys can relate to in the last 17 years.

Looking forward to seeing NMU at Yost. Always good games. Safe travels down.
To add to that, "like minded schools" SCSU and WMU have one, just ONE NCAA tournament win. Combined. For the existance of their programs. And that lone win belongs to SCSU.

Yeah, hated to see SCSU get that win. At least you have 1991 to remember. That was fun.

Very Bad News For Cats!!

Heard from a NMU player that Matt Thurber broke his leg at practice today.

This is a really a crushing blow for the playoffs!

This is the nWCHA composite schedule that was posted in the nWCHA thread.

So, I was wondering, who are our non-conference series against next season? I think I've read UW and NoDak & St. Cloud? (Is that right? I'm not sure.)

Three open weekends right now at the beginning of October, two open weekends in November and only one December weekend scheduled.

NMU will have another 36 game regular season most likely, correct? I know it's only speculation, but who else might we play (if the above three are already penciled in) and where do you think the non-conference games will fit within the schedule? Most likely two of those series will be in October, but then there would be two more series to fit in someplace in November or December perhaps?

Re: NMU Hockey 2012-2013 Season Thread

NoDak released a tentative schedule that had us penciled in for December 13th and 14th. I would expect the UW and SCSU games to be in October.

I don't think we play SCSU next year. UNO is scheduled to come to Marquette. So I believe @UW and UNO will be in October.

OK, so that's who it is...UNO. My question then is 28 conference games + 2 (UW) + 2 (UNO) + 2 (NoDak) = 34 regular season games: Is it going to be difficult at this point to line up 2 more games to make the usual 36 regular season games? Or, is there another non-con that we're going to play?

Also, I'm bummed that the only downstate series that NMU will be playing all season is the February series vs. Ferris. Of course, the final series of the season is down another 4 states. What's the weather like at the beginning of March in Hunstville? Road-trip?

Re: NMU Hockey 2012-2013 Season Thread

Actually, 34 is the NCAA maximum. The schedule went to 36 total games only when NMU traveled TO Alaska for a series (thus earning an exemption).

Seeing as NMU travels to Alaska twice this upcoming season, it's been pointed out that the NCAA exemption can be applied to both weekends. Thus, NMU could theoretically schedule up to 38 games total next season (28 conference, 10 non-conference). It's going to be a little tough to fill the schedule up at this point, but it's possible.

May even be able to coax an Eastern team or two to come visit if MTU or LSSU needs games too.

We could coax them if they have a similar open weekend and want to either pay for a flight out east in return or pay them to come to Marquette one time only. This whole problem was created because NMU already had the home series with Huntsville scheduled as a non conference. When the league absorbed Huntsville, those games were converted conference games. That leaves NMU scrambling to find a replacement.

Re: NMU Hockey 2012-2013 Season Thread

Too bad the Lakers don't go to both Alaska schools. If they did, LSSU and NMU could of had a non-conference series in the Sault. As of now, the Lakers non-conference slate is full.

I missed the interview, but from what I read after the fact, yes. He's still a little bitter that our pep band took a banner or two from the Ren Center as souvineers over the years, and blamed it on the Puckheads.

I don't know why Pletch was so fired up about it, it was taken under Anastos' leadership. Unless he's bitter the CCHA can't make a quick buck on it during their garage sale in two weeks...

This is true but for god sakes man, 7 of your 9 titles came before they even started playing the Super Bowl, when there was what, 9 teams in all of division 1 hockey? No argument on the continued success of your program since then but pump the brakes on tooting your own horn about winning a bunch of titles playing with straight blade sticks

Bring on the nWCHA. If a certain couple of schools would have been the suspects he probably would have laughed and said it just added to the lore of the ccha.

Three straight years losing in the FIRST round of the CCHA playoffs? C'mon Walt, you're better than that! Busch League.

What kind of banners were they?
