NMU 2013 Off-Season Thread

For those of you with more inside information, how much competition is there going to be between Beutenmiller, Dahlstrom and Doan for the goalie position? Is Doan the most likely starter? Or, will we see two keepers to begin the season?
From my perspective, I would say that Dahlstrom is the odds on favorite to be #1. Doan and Derek Dun will battle for #2 and Beutenmiller is the emergency keeper.

Whoa, I wasn't looking at the roster very closely--passed right over Dun. The 'Cats have four goalies battling it out for a spot and "Dahlstrom is the odds on favorite." Being a Swede myself, I can go with that!

Eight Freshmen this year (7 true, 1 redshirt). Do you know who might see consistent playing time? Who looks good to you out of the blocks?

I'll wait to see them under game conditions. But same names to take a look at include Shine & Sooth. Eibler and Kaib should be solid blue line additions with first or second pair potential and Maschmeyer could be in the rotation as well. There looks to be more depth than we've had in a while and it will be very competitive for 3rd & 4th line ice time and 3rd pair on D.

Re: NMU 2013 Off-Season Thread

So given last year, Dave, would you say reaching .500 is the ideal goal this season? Seems reasonable...is that a good approach? One step at a time?

Turn two losses into wins and NMU would have been .500 a year ago. I'd say 20 wins over last year's 15 is a reasonable goal. Besides Mankato, only Ferris finished the season over .500 and that was only by one game. There aren't too many Minnesotas, Miamis, Norte Dames or North Dakotas on the conference schedule this year.

So, I don't get it, will there be a "hockey pass" on AmericaOne this season as in years past? Or, have they simply not posted it yet? Right now AOne has posted All Access, Football, & M/W Basketball passes for NMU. Click Here to view.

Sure seems like the nWCHA should have, could have been innovative and forward-thinking by establishing a singular source, league-wide, system of broadcasting this new season of WCHA games. Is NMU going to have upgraded broadcasts through AmericaOne this season, or will it be as in past years--somewhat dull, singular camera coverage?

Also, davyd, are you going to be broadcasting this seasons games or no? Will miss your coverage if not.

I'll be there when the puck drops Oct 5. As for the Video package, the WCHA was working trying to get a league deal with Fox Sports 1's online network. That didn't happen, so they are back to square one on the feeds.

Re: NMU 2013 Off-Season Thread

I guess I'll ask this question again:

Does anyone out their in Wildcat Land know the answer to this question?

At first I wasn't that excited about watching the 'Cats in the nWCHA (I will miss the CCHA); but, as the season draws near, I think it will be an interesting season for the team in a "new" league with similarly matched teams (hopefully). I, for one, will miss the conference match-ups with Sparty, Miami, ND, and uom, but whatever.

Let's fire this thread up a bit!!! Or, who's going to start a 2013-2014 Season Thread? :D

Re: NMU 2013 Off-Season Thread

Western Michigan will join the Huskies, Wolverines and Spartans at this December's outdoor tournament at Comerica Park. The Broncos finished runner-up to Michigan Tech at last year's GLI. Ferris State will help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the GLI when it returns to Joe Louis Arena in 2014. Tech's arch rival, Northern Michigan, has been invited to play in the 2015 GLI. Western Michigan returns again in 2016 as the invitational team.

All Michigan teams in the GLI, four years in a row. Am I seeing a trend? Like it!

Re: NMU 2013 Off-Season Thread

And this from USCHO: Great Lakes Invitational goes with Michigan flavor through 2016

The question remains, if WMU is playing in 2013 and then again in 2016, why wasn't Lake State in the mix for 2016?
There are any number of reasons. Maybe LSSU already has that weekend booked. It's hard to know who was and wasn't in the mix or was discussed and what the reasons might be. The appearance for NMU will be it's 6th which is the most of any school after Tech, UM and MSU. Wesetern will make their 4th and 5th appearances (tying Boston U and Harvard for second behind NMU) while Ferris makes it's GLI debut

The LSSU website now has an option for a WCHA season pass on the American one website. It is 125 for the year, which is 50 more than what I payed last year. There is also an option for a monthly pass at 45 per month, or individual games at 9 per game. The nice thing about the season package and monthly package is you do not need to watch the games live. I could watch the replay usually an hour or two after the game ended.

Thanks.

The NMU AOne site is now offering the same deal. Click here. Not sure what I'll go with this year.

I am not sure at this point if I will buy it or not. My understanding is that all 10 WCHA teams are using the American One network. The pass should then cover all 28 conference games.

That's what our AD told me yesterday.

That works out to $4.46 for 28 games (if my math is correct). Not too bad.

If you buy the WCHA package, would that only be for your teams 28 game conference season or total games conference wide? Obviously, that's an even better deal; and, it gives you the opportunity to see some good match-ups throughout the conference on occasion.

I'll probably end up buying in.

My understanding from speaking with our AD on Friday was that the conference pass got you all of the conference games. You would need to purchase non-conference games on your own dollars. Team-specific season passes will have all conference games, all home games, and any non-conference away dates where the member school uses AmericaOne.

I am trying to find out (i.e., the other window is an email to our AD) if the games are archived for later viewing. I would personally love to watch Bemidji get slaughtered by the Wildcats. I might even watch it twice. I'll post what I find out in the main WCHA thread, but I wanted to post here since it was being discussed.
