NMU 2009-2010 Season

Re: NMU 2009-2010 Season

Hrm... It might be worth going to Friday's home opener if he is indeed assigned to the Wolves...

Good luck showing up at the Allstate Friday...

...Home opener isn't till Saturday. :p

Should be worth going anyway, Sid Vicious is on the Wolves this year. :)

Santorelli still is in Nashville, so NMU will continue to have an NHL presence this season.

Re: NMU 2009-2010 Season

Breaking my hiatus to say this: don't. freaking. tempt. me.

Still a little mad that we're no longer the opener in the new barn, but given the circumstances I understand.

As was discussed in the CHA thread (click for Bemidji Pioneer article on schedule), it appears this series was moved to Thanksgiving weekend to accommodate a change in the original BSU schedule, which had the Beavers playing at the North Dakota Tourney that weekend. Also, here's a note from that article about opening vs. North Dakota:

“I’m happy the league could accommodate us and have North Dakota be our first opponent in our new building,” said Bemidji State head coach Tom Serratore. “UND has been very good to us over the years and we share the same hockey market. There are many Grand Forks people who have a close relationship with our community and many Bemidji folks who have deep connections with Grand Forks and UND.”

“Plus, when you add how successful a hockey program UND has been, hosting them here to open the new building will be quite an event. A lot of people will want to travel here from Grand Forks for that series.”

BSU then added a series at Alabama-Huntsville in the Tourneys place, trying to help out the Chargers:

The only slight surprise in the schedule has the Beavers playing Huntsville on the road. “After this season UAH will be playing as an independent and they need home games – especially during the second half of the season,” Serratore reported. “They have been a great rival and a great friend over the years. Whatever we can do to help we felt we needed to do.

“We were very fortunate to end up with a membership in the WCHA. They are going to be left without a home after this season and can’t play 26-28 games on the road as an independent. We’re doing what we can to help.”

Re: NMU 2009-2010 Season

NMU is ranked 5th in the both the coaches and media poll at the CCHA media day.

Michigan State recieved 1 first place vote in the media poll, while Northern recieved one first place vote in the coaches poll.

I thought Ohio State received the 1 first place vote in the media poll.

Anyway, glad to hear Dave Danis is back as play-by-play man along side Mingay.

My bad. TV6 Sports only showed the media poll and only the top 5 at that. TV6's Mike Ludlum is probably the moron who gave MSU a vote since he's an MSU alum. Plus he doesn't follow hockey unless he has to.

Actually, I doubt he'd be one of the voting media.

Re: NMU 2009-2010 Season

C'mon be fair to Luds. On given Friday night in October thru March he has to appease the fans of 3 college hockey teams and about 40 high school basketball or footballl teams, get the Red Wings and Pistons in there plus any other breaking national story and do it all in about 4 minutes. TV 6 does live shots from far more NMU games than they do from Tech or Finlandia.

...and thanks to all for the kind words and support! Cat fans are the best in the world and I'm really looking forward to putting the headset back on Sunday afternoon!

Be it Ohio State or Michigan State, I want whatever that voter's smoking.

And yes, congrats to Davy D! Now I have a new reason to buy a new computer... so I can spend my weekends listening to Cat Hockey once again! :)

Re: NMU 2009-2010 Season

I got weird looks from other students last year trying to start U-N-M! Cheer in the student sections.

Nice.
Side note here--When does the PtC start up for this year, and who's running the show?

Good question. I thought Bando was still in charge.

I'll continue to host the season long point standings.

I really don't want to see this end.

If SCuM is too busy with her intership to do the points tallying, I'm willing to take over if she sends me the stuff to do it. :)

Me, and the first one will be up for the Superior Showcase. I was going to do a practice run for the exhibition, but everyone playing already knows how to play and with the fantasy draft, I just didn't feel like it :)
