I figured it was about time to start a new season thread, instead of using the Offseason thread. How do people feel we will fair in the first few weeks of the new season?

Re: NMU 2009-2010 Season

Based on the recent past we should win 4 of those games and then only lost 4 in the 2nd half.

This team has the talent to compete for 1st place in the conference. If we could just manage to stay around the .500 mark by Christmas we should be in good shape. I'll be ecstatic if we can secure a 1st round bye.

Um, why? Aren't there still 2 weeks left in the off-season? It's not like the old thread got locked up...

That said, I'm fired up about going to the BSU series in five weeks. I haven't seen NMU play (outside on TV a couple times a year) live since this game at the BEC in '02...

Re: NMU 2009-2010 Season

I'm with Matt, bring on the new thread. :)

I'm nervous about the first few weeks. It's a relatively tough schedule, and in the past few years, we haven't done so well in the fall.

Anyone planning to go up to Houghton for the first Superior Showwhatever game?

So, who likes Northern Michigan's odds this weekend for the Miner's Cup at Sherman Field??

:D :D

Pinching pennies to try and make the trip... It's been over a year since I have seen a game in person... That streak has got to end....

Re: NMU 2009-2010 Season

I see NMU going at least 13-6 leading up to Christmas. This may seem like a reach because of the past two seasons starts but there is a ton more talent on this team in comparison. The first six games will be the true test and I think the team is up to the task and will set the tone early for what could be a tremendously exciting COMPLETE year!!! :D

If that happens we should win the conference!

Go Cats!

I care. I was at the Northwood game two weeks ago. It was an absolutely heartbreaking loss. I don't like our chances up in Houghton. I really can't see MTU starting out the season 0-3. I think it will be close, but the Huskies will come out on top.

Re: NMU 2009-2010 Season

I'm looking forward to being in Marquette for the Nov. 20-21 series! Me thinks that the faster paced Mav's may cause some trouble for you Cats.

I really really like the 'Cats chances this year. Last year, they were in just about every game, losing around 10 games by two goals or less, and I believe the number was around 6 of losing games decided by one goal. This team has the ability to keep games close when they need to, but I really do believe the 'Cats can win the offensive minded game (like 6-5). Its going to be a great year, and we MUST get things rolling early in the season.

My initial reaction is 10-9. I think it's reasonable to expect splits for most of those, with exception of being swept at ND, and sweeping State. The upside is a sweep of both Bemidji and either UNO or Lake State, which nets 12-7. Conversely, Tech could pull out their home game, Miami might sweep, and throw in one more loss among either OSU or MSU, you're at 7-12. We're more likely to see the best case scenario versus the worst.

I think everybody here would agree that the buzzsaw of a schedule the Cats had to face early last year didn't do much for their confidence. That doesn't appear to be much of an issue this year. They should get off to a good start, which will pay dividends later in the year.
