Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Tossing molotov cocktails isn't peaceful protesting in my book. And disturbing the peace isn't, either. And what tanks?? There were no tanks.

There are plenty of pics of police on those military Humvees or whatever you call them. Tank might not be the correct term but they're highly unnecessary.

And no, it's not at all possible that the police provoked the violence here. It's not like they threw tear gas in ppl's back yards, assaulted members of the press, pointed automatic weapons at members of the press or unarmed peaceful protestors, egged them on by calling them animals...

Calling a humvee a tank is a pretty big exaggeration.

Of course, that exaggeration wouldn't be intentional though...

I'm sure you've thought this over in great detail :D

Yes, let's parse semantics now, clearly that will lead to a reasonable productive debate. I'm not in the military and I'm not the first person to refer to it as a tank by accident I'm sure.

He was a legally armed man who showed off his earnings while working for the orphanage. Duh.

White people post pictures of themselves with guns all the time and no one cares. Hell, people at Bundy's ranch pointed weapons at the police. Remind me why it's OK for them to take pictures with guns and not for a black man?

And again: the chief said on Tuesday that Brown was NOT a suspect in any robbery. Get it? That wasn't the reason he was even stopped.

The guy with him is not being charged with anything either.

Now they're going back and saying he is in fact a robbery suspect. Who knows, I don't really trust the police force but even if that is true it doesn't justify the multiple eyewitness versions of the shooting.

Frankly, I don't care that he posed with a gun. I've posed with a gun. Whoop-dee-doo. I was merely mocking one of the arguments. ;)

And for trixie:

Semantics? Only if you're an idiot.

Looks more like a "jeep" than a "tank."

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

The point was that it was a complete overreaction to the situation at hand. Can we go back to the original point or do we really need to have this side debate to distract from the actual argument?

I think we all agree it was an over-reaction. Some of us are sticking to the actual facts that everyone does indeed know.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

The report of tanks was accurate but incomplete. As I posted earlier, there were tanks being transported by train and people assumed they were going to Ferguson. However, those tanks were being taken to a nearby military base. Just a very bad coincidence (yes, there are coincidences).

Then people called those assault vehicles "tanks" which led to people saying there were tanks in Ferguson. There weren't.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

So now the public relations shoe is squeezing a different foot. Turns out the "gentle giant" (who was going to start college this week) wasn't so gentle after all. And the squealing of those who've invested so heavily in the narrative of an out of control cop stopping a guy for "walking while black" can be heard from coast to coast.

In the Duke "rape" case, we were told endlessly that that whore was on the honor role at her local JC. Similarly, we've been told endlessly that Brown was about to start college in a couple of days. As if that "proves" he wasn't capable of any wrong doing.

Brown was a big, hulking young man. I've seen photos of him posted (not in the MSM, of course) flashing gang signs and one where he's holding a pistol with a wad of money in his mouth. None of that automatically justifies his death of course. But it does require a little reflection. And an acknowledgement that we may have gotten what happened that night wrong. The part of the narrative that's never made sense to me is the claim that the officer somehow engaged Brown through the window of his patrol car and tried to pull him inside the vehicle. That makes exactly zero sense.

But the store surveillance photos of Brown intimidating a helpless middle aged lady in that convenience store, at a minimum, go a long way toward dispelling the myth that this was a choir boy whom cops were hassling just because he was "walking while black."

Holy cow... a moment of clarity.

Agreed.

Agreed, as well.

Yet we're still not seeing enough details to understand how we arrived at the conclusion of "shoot Michael Brown numerous times". If the witness accounts are all BS, then what's the official story? It seems odd that it's taking so long to put it together, and while that doesn't justify any sort of tin-foil-hat conspiracy theories it does make one wonder exactly how calculated their version of the story will be.

Why release the robbery report and not the report of the confrontation with the officer? (My guess: Character assassination to soften the blow when the official report comes that Brown was belligerent and the officer involved, to say the least, overreacted)

I've heard about that but it seems to me that it's hysterics at the highest level to jump to the assumption that those tanks are going somewhere for crowd control.

I don't believe they rolled tanks into south central and that was a ****ing riot.

Alright, military grade vehicle, my bad. If you really think that was intentional and in bad faith then I'm probably not going to convince you otherwise.

I'll accept that change of terminology and give you the benefit of the doubt.

My guess is they're not done with the investigation yet.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Well, here's what you get when the police withhold information about the shooting and try to blame the victim while doing it.

http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/mi...-family-accuses-ferguson-police-smear-n181696 Michael Brown's family is beyond outraged at the devious way the police chief has chosen to disseminate piece mil information in a manner intended to assassinate the character of their son, following such a brutal assassination of his person in broad daylight.

There is nothing based on the facts that have been placed before us that can justify the execution style murder of their child by this police officer as he held his hands up, which is the universal sign of surrender.

The prolonged release of the officer's name and then the subsequent alleged information regarding a robbery is the reason why the family and the local community have such distrust for the local law enforcement agencies.

It is no way transparent to release the still photographs alleged to be Michael Brown and refuse to release the photographs of the officer that executed him.

The police strategy of attempting to blame the victim will not divert our attention, from being focused on the autopsy, ballistics report and the trajectory of the bullets that caused Michael's death and will demonstrate to the world this brutal execution of an unarmed teenager.

Whoever is running this police department is beyond incompetent.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

My guess is they're not done with the investigation yet.

That was my initial thought as well, but in situations like this how much can there really be for them to do beyond witness interviews? Perhaps our resident law enforcement vet could enlighten me on that account, since I'm just not understanding what else could be delaying the report.

Whoever is running this police department is beyond incompetent.

It really is starting to boggle my mind.
