If I took any of our regular political thread posters seriously, I might be insulted. However, as OP, FlagDUDE, Bob, Rover, Kepler, FF, Scooby, etc. have established over the years, it's more interesting to just play along. :p

I don't necessarily think it was racist, but I do think it's highly inappropriate for a 4th of July parade that is supposed to be about celebrating our country.

It's a potshot at the president, IMO. Not the black president, just he president. I'm getting tired of every time someone takes a shot at the prez, it's automatically "racist" because Obama is black.

Because when I take my niece and nephew to a 4th of July parade, I expect to see political commentary and not just marching bands, a few firetrucks, and the mayor riding in a convertible...

No offense, but how do you know? I dont assume it is racist but I also dont discount that it might be. We can pretend race doesnt play a part in a lot of this but there is something more than just Right vs. Left in a lot of this crap.

Even if it isnt, why are people taking pot shots at the President of the USA during a parade celebrating the USA?

And just so it doesnt get missed I DONT THINK THAT PARTICULAR FLOAT WAS RACIST...stupid and misguided sure (especially since I am sure said creators voted for Dubya) but not racist.

I don't know for sure, I did say IMO it wasn't. However, it was labeled "racist" immediately, when it might not be, which seems to be the case more often than not during Obama's term.

Inappropriate float. On the other hand, it must be tiring, lugging that professional "racism detector" around with you all the time. Because any word of criticism or opposition to that empty suit might be racist. You've lowered the bar to ground level, haven't you? Besides, you really don't mean it. In your mind race plays a role in "a lot" of the criticism of Obama. By which you mean almost all.

That float would probably be a non-story if not for the fairly crude caricature of Obama plastered to the front of the outhouse. And yes, there were plenty of "derpy Bush" effigies strung up/burned/mocked in liberal protests back in the day. Fact is though, Obama is black, and a double standard is going to get applied. I'm not saying that's right, but it is the truth.

Were those protests done at a 4th of July parade?

I'm not questioning the message (giving the person the benefit of the doubt that it isn't racist), I'm questioning the time and place of it.

I personally agree with you. Give me some good marching bands, clowns in small cars and maybe a float or two and I'm good.

Unfortunately political candidates, including Obama, have been milking 4th of July parades for all they are worth for so long as I can remember, and probably longer than that. It's hard for those same candidates, or their supporters, to cry foul if someone on the opposite side wants to play politics with the parade, too.

hmm....I notice that more and more black people are now starting to emphasize that Obama is a mixed-race president......soon enough we'll be hearing that all of his failures will be attributable to his crazy white grandmother!
