Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

So let's just say that they were walking down the middle of the street as reported. Imagine if they had just used the convenient sidewalks instead of making themselves a nuisance that a cop had to address.

Is being in the street a capital offense? Should someone lose their life over it? Obviously not.

I'm certainly not here to make an excuse for a cop using excessive force - if that's what this turns out to be - but it just goes to show how a seemingly small choice can alter a destiny. Don't put yourself in that needless position and you never encounter that cop who may or may not have used excessive deadly force.

See the walking/standing in the streets BS from time to time and it's just an attempt to **** people off who are just trying to get from point a to point b. Hey look at me! You can't tell me what to do!

No... I can call a cop though.

Just Tony Stewart them.

Too soon?

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Woman: I was maced and I had come up to QuickTrip because they said I could use their sink. So I was trying to clean out my eyes with some water and one of the employees told me to go get some milk, because that would help. So as I was pouring milk in my eyes, the officers had come in and told me to get out.

Lemon: When was this?

Woman: This was like a month ago. I came outside and I was trying to pour milk in my eyes and Wilson told me if I poured milk in my eyes, I was going to be arrested. And I was trying to tell him that my eyes were burning because I was maced, but he told me to 'Shut the F up.' So, another man told me to get in my car and turn the air and put my face in front of the vents, so that's what I did.

Lemon: So were you arrested? What happened?

Woman: No, I wasn't arrested. When I got in my car and turned the air on and put my face in front of the vent. Wilson made me get out of the car and sit on the concrete and he took all my information and ran my name. And I was still trying to pour the milk in my eyes because I couldn't see, and he's telling me to 'shut the F up' and 'sit the f down' and I was looking at his name tag and I was telling myself that I would never forget who he was and what he did to me. And I prayed on it and I asked God to get revenge on him and I'm sorry this is the way it happened, but what's done in the dark always come to the light, and I saw the news this morning—
Probably lying as well.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Has to do with the cop who may have been overzealous in shooting an unarmed teen in the back multiple times.

Because of heresy concerning a completely unrelated incident from a different day?

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Well no, that's not the reason I think he may have been overzealous. And the "strong armed robbery" (a term no prosecutor would use with a straight face to describe the convenience store incident) was pretty unrelated to the actual shooting too but for whatever reason it seemed to get a lot of focus in the media and on here.

So where's the video of this incident?

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

A couple of stores have had windows broken by drunk teenagers trying to use the protests as cover. People in the crowd are having none of it.

Looking at some of the pictures and videos, I wouldn't want to try looting. Those guys look mean.

Oh, and despite what the CNN twitter feed keeps saying, this is peaceful. The vast majority of protesters are policing this, the actual police are keeping their distance. CNN seems determined to fan the flames.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Was hilarious, one dude was guarding the store to keep out looters and his mom was on the phone crying thinking he was causing trouble. The reporter guy (from Vice or something) talked to the lady and reassured her that her son was being responsible :D

I do enjoy a few tweets that are now ripping the Ferguson PD for "just posing in riot gear" not stepping in to stop it. Two days ago they wanted to line them up in front of a firing squad for preparing for one.

And good for the Ferguson residents for stepping up and putting a stop to it. Break the cycle.

The problem is there are reports that some of the looters are going home to get their guns. If that's true, I'd rather have trained professionals there to handle it.

However, if it's the Ferguson PD back on the streets, I'm not sure that applies. Where are Chief Johnson and his police force?

Much rather have trained professionals. I also don't recall FPD being back out there, thought it was still State Patrol.

Blow it out your barracks bag. The fact that this enormous punk strong armed a clerk to steal some cigars does not justify what happened to him subsequently. But it does do terrible, possibly fatal damage to the narrative (repeated endlessly) that he was a "good kid who was heading to college this week." That doesn't mean he deserved to die, of course. But to people who aren't emotionally invested in the narrative (like they were with the Duke "rape" case) it should raise some questions. Obviously, you have none. Let's try this: extend to the cop the same presumption of innocence you're been extending to Brown. Why don't you try waiting 'till the multiple, over lapping investigations of this regrettable incident are completed? But then, that would require you to stop braying about "racist cops." Not to mention temporarily suspending your cutesy suggestions that anyone disagreeing with your prejudiced assumptions is doing so out of racial animus.

First of all, I'm not braying about "racist cops", I'm asking for FPD to step up with their side of the story. They haven't offered it, which is unique when you consider that in these types of events, there's usually at minimum a Police incident report available at this point. That the FPD has otherwise handled itself so poorly to the effect that they were relieved of their duties this week, and that they were detaining journalists makes it hard to have faith that there isn't anything odd about this.

Second of all, the officer's presumption of innocence is ultimately tied to his side of the story (that we aren't hearing). We know what he did, insofar as Michael Brown is dead. So let's hear why it happened.

Thirdly, the "narrative" you keep mentioning isn't terribly relevant to why this kid is dead. The "narrative" is just some bull**** you see on cable news networks that Sean Hannity and Nancy Grace get to blather on about like the soulless hacks that they are. If that's what you want to get upset about, you might as well go outside and shout at the sky. The modern media doesn't matter enough to get so up in arms over what stories they're telling. It's our ability to sift through their sensationalist nonsense that has more value.

All that said: Yes, if Brown was a bullying jerk, it's going to make it less surprising if the FPD's version of the story is that Brown attacked an officer. Yes, the eyewitness accounts are flat out odd in some respects, but we aren't waiting for those stories to come out right now are we? I know I'm not too concerned over some BS claim that the officer tried to pull the kid into his squad car. I just want to know, from FPD, what happened.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Community leaders asked that the police stay back and let them police the situation in Ferguson themselves. The fear was a police presence would escalate the situation. For the most part, they did pretty well. The meat market and liquor store were the most heavily hit and they already have people from the community cleaning up. Hopefully tonight we see the big guys standing guard before any trouble even starts.

In case the cops try to accuse him of something, too?

As an attorney who is married to a public defender, I recommend anyone have an attorney while being questioned by police whether or not they're a suspect at the time.

Excellent advice.
