Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Should you have the misfortune of having children, see how well you react when someone kills just one, let alone two at one time. Personally, I completely understand that man's reaction and I've never been burdened with kids.

I'm sure I wouldn't react well but it also wouldn't justify me murdering someone. And if I had to guess you probably don't apply this "logic" consistently.

If you're gonna grant temporary insanity here you might as well grant it to the guy who didn't know right from wrong because he did hallucinogens or was really drunk. We can see the slippery slope it creates to say the least.

If those were my children, it would have taken a team of men with shovels. I'd have torn him apart.

Even now, an army of (GPL Poster) Vikings would be needed to even slow me down in that situation if it came to my almost-step-children. (for non-GPLers...he is a rather large man that I wouldn't want to anger; I believe he's bigger than bbdl)

"Panties" was only a part of the controversy. A highly technical explanation of what constituted rape (the words "penetration" and "completion" were used) and whether or not the murdered Barney Quill was capable of having children and whether it was possible to determine if a mature married woman had been raped and did Ben Gazzara knock his wife around were other matters covered in great detail. The word "spermatogenesis" was used in one bit of cross examination. Otto Preminger really killed the code with that film. And you're right, it was apparently a struggle for him. It's terrific. I highly recommend it.

Best courtroom drama ever.

And based on an actual court case the author was a part of.

Written by a Michigan judge, no?

Joseph Welch (of Army McCarthy Hearings fame) played the judge, his wife a juror.

The young George C. Scott was extraordinarily sinister. You longed for Jimmy Stewart to actually "punch him out to the middle of Lake Superior."

As a kid, the Pios were in the UP and they pointed out some of the locations used in the film.

The difference between this situation and the one you describe is taking hallucinogens or getting really drunk is a choice, therefore you are responsible for your actions as a result of that choice. Having your kids run over by a drunk driver is not.

One of the rare times when a great screenplay meets great acting. Truly an amazing movie, and every time I see it I see new things and react somewhat differently.

From Wikipedia: "written by Michigan Supreme Court Justice John D. Voelker under the pen name Robert Traver. Voelker based the novel on a 1952 murder case in which he was the defense attorney."

I did not know this.

Wow. I was expecting something that was a real reach until I clicked the link. Just wow.
Did Vanilla Ice pitch this design?

"No, no, no the stripes that the Nazis made the Jews wear were vertical, not horizontal, so as you can see it's completely different."

And having your kid gunned down by a cop isn't a choice either but I doubt anyone here would extend the same logic to Michael Brown's father if he did the same thing.

Silly, a black man with a gun is a thug. See the difference?

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Michael Brown's father didn't witness it.

If he did you still wouldn't justify it, I think we both know this

He also had a choice whether to kill the guy.

I challenge you to find where I justified the first case. I pointed a difference (and a major one) in your example with the one at hand.

I haven't read anything on the case, except what's in this thread.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Maybe had daddy been there he could have told his kid to get the heck out of the middle of the street so as not to draw unwanted attention and coz it's an arse-pain for drivers and then he could have told his kid to just do what he's being told and not argue and get out of the middle of the street.

Then maybe he could have told his kid to not engage in a physical confrontation with an armed cop, coz, you know that might not turn out so well.

The pendantic differences you pointed out hardly matter from a legal standpoint.

Jaywalking justifies 2nd degree murder, got it! Thanks!

There's no evidence that he engaged in a physical confrontation with the cop other than he may have gotten choked and ran away from him. Oh and the stuff the guy who killed him claims.

Considering one is not allowed to be used as an excuse in a temporary insanity defense, and one is, I'd say the difference I pointed out matters greatly from a legal standpoint.

BTW...pendantic is not a word.
