Nice Planet XII: It's Cruel to be Kind!

The amount of grief C Store cashiers take on a regular basis is unreal. I once walked out to my truck grabbed a 3 ft pipe wrench and stood next to a cashier who was getting told off for some reason unknown to us all. The customer got the hint and left. Its unbelievable what gets said to these guys pretty much every day. Customers are idiots

I watched a guy lose his sh** last week at the gas station because he didn't want to pre pay. There are two other gas stations within a quarter mile that don't have pre pay signs pasted everywhere that he decided to pass.

There are stores where you DON'T have to pre-pay? I thought all the major gasoline brands started mandating that...

Something must be in the air. This past weekend I saw a guy completely lose his sh-t in a C Store parking lot. It was scary enough that when he started lurching back towards his truck people got in their cars and took off.

Most filling stations around here have pre-pay at certain pumps - those where it's easiest to drive off without getting caught, but the rest of them give you the option of paying in the store or with a card. There are a few stations along I-94 in St. Paul that require pre-pay or credit card swipes at all pumps.

Other than that, how is life in Ittoqqortoormiit?

Getting warmer by the day.

Not sure what's up with that gas station. There are four or five others of the same chain in town and all of them have card readers. Must be a different owner.

You're my hero. I probably called on that store at some point in my first career.

This. I've been to areas of cities where there you DO have to prepay, either inside or at the pump. Usually higher crime areas, for obvious reasons.

This is truly a horrible thing, and they have every right to be cautious and upset. However...

The Council on Islamic American Relations (CAIR) is demanding an investigation into the beating that took place and hope to see law enforcement get involved.

What are they expecting law enforcement officers to do? Do they want the bus driver charged with a crime for not seeing what's happening? Do they want the other 7yo children arrested? That won't get far.

Also, they would do well to not live in the South, should the family decide to return, as a matter of their safety.

Stupid, but couples can still go to Mississippi, Texas, or Arkansas and get married. Then LA loses the revenue from the wedding and other accoutrements.

Really? You think it's only a minor inconvenience to require someone going through cancer treatment to travel to another state to engage in a fundamental right? And the only harm is to the state's finances?

I wish I were shocked.

They used to travel from all over the East Coast to Elkton, MD to get married.

And, they used to (maybe still do) travel from all over the country to Nevada to get divorced.

If people want it bad enough, they will figure out a way.
