Nice Planet XI: Stop the World, I Want to Get Off!

Re: Nice Planet XI: Stop the World, I Want to Get Off!

You do understand this is the exact argument that is being presented by rational people against this issue, right? Or did the Huff brainwash you into thinking it's just anti-gay bigotry?

How do you propose that we enforce these laws? Hire - *gasp* - more cops to stakeout public restrooms and perform unwarranted searches of people's genitals? ;)

These laws are otherwise unenforceable, and are the last hysterical shrieks of an increasing minority that just doesn't get it and never will. The pedos (who are pedos regardless of what's between their legs) like the sicko in your article will get caught because they'll do something flagrantly illegal and gross that actually harms the innocent. The regular trans folks will mind their own business, like they've already done for years.

Re: Nice Planet XI: Stop the World, I Want to Get Off!

Rational people are saying that transgendered people are all pedophiles?

It's called the law of unintended consequences. Many believe their ideas will happen in a vacuum, without any effect on anything else.

People didn't like the first TSA, how about we create a new one! :p:D

Oh, but they're just trying to use a bathroom; they'd NEVER try to create kinder-porn... http://www.westernjournalism.com/brave-10-year-old-girl-reports-man-in-womens-restroom/

So, a cis male used the women's bathroom, which is already illegal. All that does is confirm that nothing is currently stopping anyone from using the opposite gender bathroom in the first place.

Here's a story of a man taking pictures of a boy in a bathroom.
Guess we better get legislation on the books to stop men from using the men's room so this never happens again!

That's rich. You're acting like people don't do these things already and yet you posted a link to that exact situation. The bearded man in the story you posted didn't look like he was going through any sort of transition. It's not like retailers are guarding their restrooms today to make sure men and women are using their designated spaces. You're your own worst enemy in this argument, Flagg.

A lot of advertising companies are doing this for the sole purpose of race-baiting, gender-baiting, and/or being controversial. Regardless of what your personal views are on these topics, the fact that they are intentionally trying to race-bait is, in fact, racism. Or if it was a homosexual couple with adopted children, discrimination of orientation (was there a defined -ism yet?). OK, so there's a family. Big deal. I see two parents and some kids. Is there any reason to shove race-baiting and gender-baiting down people's throats? What the advertising company has done is taken their focus off the product they are trying to sell, and instead putting the focus on the -ism of the day. If I were a higher-up of the company, I'd much rather see 100 new people walk through my doors with purchased product than see 10,000 people yapping about my brand and not actually going to see the products we offer.

Let's say I hate the Irish. If you run an ad with an Irish model, are you baiting me?

The thing I don't get about these latter day haters and their various "religious freedom" fig leaves is they expect the rest of the world to bend over backwards for their bigotries.

Why should we? Their hatred is their problem, not ours.

Should we bend over for yours? Heck if you saw a Southerner, you'd be clamoring for ethnic cleansing.

I guarantee you I see more southerners in a day than you do in a week.

If you want to morally equate showing a mixed race family with the cry NOT to show one because of bigotry, well, you just do that. :p

Tolerance provides for intolerance of intolerance. Only the intolerant think this is a paradox.

Michael Bay was closer to the mark with Pearl Harbor than you were with this drivel. However, to clarify, I was once part of a study group that showed these sorts of commercials and then asked me about the "controversial subjects". This insight, which you may or may not have been aware of, led me to believe that they are focusing less on the product they're trying to sell and more on being racist, sexist, and discriminatory in other means.

Or maybe, just maybe, they're doing it on purpose to signal to the vast majority of Americans who have moved past 1964 that the company has, too. Why would they care a whit about the 10,000 wailing in the street when 100 million are quietly thinking, "Good. Wonder what took them so long?"

Regardless of what their intentions are, it's putting less focus on what they're selling. I'll give you that getting a company's name out there in a not-so-good light is better than not getting it out there at all because people (at least we would hope) have the ability to formulate their own opinions, but I'd rather know about what that company wants to sell me. Given it's Old Navy, talk to me about the clothes you're offering.

You have clearly never taken a marketing class. What, pray tell, did he "1984" commercial have to do with personal computers?

Come to think of it, maybe it's even better...what if they counted on 10,000 bigots losing their shibby, and if each of them yells about Gap to 10 of their friends, and 3 of those rant to 10 more each, and 3 of those potificate to 10 more... Pretty soon the whole country, including the 7 of 10 who don't care either way, have heard about Gap. Congrats on being a pawn in their scheme - first time I have thought about Gap in months, thanks to you. Going to go buy me some cargo shorts now....
