Re: Nice Planet XI: Stop the World, I Want to Get Off!
that's awesome PR. I'm with the Paiutes.

I don't have a problem with waiting this out for now. No reason to risk the lives of any law enforcement over these backward wastes of dna and obviously, we can't drone strike them - even though it would be kind of funny.
I do have a problem with nothing ever coming of this though like the standoff two years ago.
The occupiers need to be charged with the crimes that they are committing.
As someone else said, arrest them when they are alone at the grocery store or a cafe or whatever, but charge them eventually.
Same goes for any BLM protestors who break laws. I'm sympathetic to their cause, but if they're going to walk up an interstate or close down a mall on private property, charge them with whatever crime they are committing.
I was saying the same thing last night, and apparently that made me a racist.![]()
Isn't this the "Nice Planet" thread?
Where's mention of the "H-Bomb of Justice"?
That's the biggest threat we face this morning.
Kim Jong-Un with a hydrogen bomb ... nice planet.
To be fair... you are a racist.

I'm an elitist. I am better than you, silly Sconnie.![]()
Haha.
Actually, I'm a FIB and we know we're better than all of you (Minnys and Sconnies) - when we bother to remember that you exist.

For years those of us who are wildlife photographers, birdwatchers and carers of wildlife, have been documenting the activities of you poachers and criminals around many of our nation’s wildlife refuges. With our powerful cameras, and ability to move unseen in the wilderness, we have found and documented your illegal hunts, your illegal traps and all sorts of illicit activities, and are constantly feeding that information to law enforcement, and we have finally got many of you poachers on the run and into jails.
As Oregon’s Congressman Earl Blumenauer just stated, “Armed insurrection is terrorism. The situation at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge shouldn’t be allowed to fester but should be dealt with firmly, swiftly and fairly. The continued disruption to the community of Burns and occupation of a federal facility is unacceptable. Those involved should be arrested and prosecuted.”
Part of the pact you make when you do civil disobedience is to do the time. You go to jail as a symbol of your cause. You appeal to the conscience of the public which in a democratic nation can address the problem.
“An individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for the law."
― Martin Luther King Jr.
See, here's why I believe you're wrong and where the breakdown occurs between comparing BLM and MLK. MLK, Rosa Parks, and others weren't out for anarchy. They were protesting the businesses and services responsible for the racist segregation. A counter doesn't serve blacks? Sit in at the counter. A bus doesn't let blacks in the front? Sit in the front.
A cop in Minnespolis kills a person who may or may not have been handcuffed who may or may not have been going for a cop's gun after savagely beating his girlfriend? Shut down the airport on the busiest travel day of the year.
A cop in Ferguson kills a person in Ferguson who attacked him. Shut down the Mall of America.
Wait, what?
These people aren't freedom fighters. They're petty and common anarchists. They don't deserve our respect until they completely purge their leadership and actually do something of substance.
It's not even about productivity. It's about protesting those who are wronging you.
Some of us have been noticing that for a while now...... I am not in the right frame of mind.
By interrupting the general public, you do interrupt the government- as it's just a representation of the people.
Bear in mind, when sitting at a counter refusing to leave- when what they are protesting are the laws supporting such discrimination- they, too, are interrupting many people's general lives. The only difference is the scale they are doing it on.
Had the Minnesota protesters just marched on the police station, would you have even known about it? I'm pretty sure the rest of the nation would not have heard.
I'm not sure how you get anarchists from people protesting. Anarchists are against all government. As I saw the protests- they were protesting how they were being treated by government, not demanding for a total end of government.
Calling BLM destructive just because people did that during the protests- do you have any evidence that BLM told people to go out and vandalize stuff? I don't recall any of them stating that they are going to have an armed protest and that anyone approaching them will be met with violence.
The sit-ins at lunch counters were directly impacting those who were discriminating, blocking travelers at MSP airport was not directly impacting the Minneapolis police. It was directly impacting people who were trying to go visit their family, travel for work, or go on vacation. I feel it was a silly and ill-thought-out tactic. It's not getting anyone on their side who wasn't already on their side.
