Nice Planet IX: Oh that's just GREAT...

Re: Nice Planet IX: Oh that's just GREAT...

Not my sole concern was my point.

We spend a ton of time in our backyard including eating out there every meal that's possible. We have a pool and a deck. We chose our house partly because of the backyard and the understanding that it will remain bordered by other single family homes.

Had our realtor taken us to a home bordered by apartments, we would have simply said, "Next!" And left.
So in other words you want enough privacy in your back yard that you could take a leak off your back porch if you wanted too.

We can't bust heads like we used to. But we have our ways. One trick is to tell stories that don't go anywhere. Like the time I caught the ferry to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for m'shoe. So I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Gimme five bees for a quarter," you'd say. Now where were we... oh yeah. The important thing was that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. I didn't have any white onions, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

Re: Nice Planet IX: Oh that's just GREAT...

I miss my backyard in MN, but since we decided to rent and not sell I pray we'll be back to it one day. Tall maples, large deck, retractable awning for midday sun or rainy nights, small cement slab tucked in a corner for grilling. And they built the neighborhood as such that all the backyards run together (albeit on 3/4 lots so plenty of space) and they did not remove all the trees when they put the houses in. Here in the Phils there is in essence so such thing as a yard, but it's gated, we have a pool, and there's a rec center and restaurant inside the gate.

Whereas you can't really screw up with a heavy-caliber rifle to the temple

Believe it or not, people do survive self inflicted gunshot wounds to the head. I have seen a few and they are always very unfortunate cases.

When I get terminal cancer, I'm moving to Oregon. I hear secobarbital is a helluva drug.

I fall more in line with this. If I have the opportunity to go out on my terms, comfort will be key. It is interesting to note though that a fair bit of people who fill the prescription in Oregon do not actually use it. For some, it functions as a safety net that allows the patient to feel like they have control over something instead of the disease controlling every aspect of their life.

I know they do, and theoretically could even with a heavy caliber if you don't take the 'proper' angle. But I'm always astounded by the number of people that that use a .22 or similar for anything bigger than a squirrel (small rimfires are commonplace and I guess that's why they're often used in the commission of crimes). I guess they must figure, a rifle is a rifle - it should do the trick. No. That thing is a peashooter.

In high school, a kid in my class used a shotgun. It would take some really horrible luck to get it wrong with a shotgun. His luck was not horrible that day.

Knew two. One was shotgun, other was hanging. The latter was officially "sexual asphyxiation" gone wrong, but those who knew him knew better.

Buddy from high school hung himself in his room. He was gay. Really kickstarted the whole investigation into Anoka-Hennepin ISD #11's stance on homosexuals, which as locals may know, still hasn't been resolved.

Buddy in HS was found in the bathtub hanging. rumor was that it was sexual asphyxiation, but they never really did rule out suicide either. Just seemed to be so out of the blue.

Re: Nice Planet IX: Oh that's just GREAT...

Nowhere in the article does it say anything about 2/3 (unless you're referring to a video that happens to be there; Flash is blocked on this browser and I don't feel like overriding it at this time). And it specifically states getting rid of the single-family zoning and replacing it with multi-family. Probably not in one fell swoop, but rather annexing it gradually. Also, according to this committee, it looks like you're a racist if you have single-family property. That's how they're trying to justify this one.
It was buried all the way down in the seventh paragraph:
Some of the challenges the city faces includes almost two-thirds of the urban land being restricted to single-family homes, the letter continues. The letter considers increasing density almost everywhere in the city, the Times reports.
Then the next paragraph says,
With a 19-3 vote, the committee recommends replacing single-family zoning with zoning that would allow for more multi-unit buildings, according to the Times.
The author is the one positing that they will get rid of the single-family zoning. There is no quote from a Seattle official to that effect. They are saying that limiting zoning to only single-family homes limits what people can do and how many people can live in a given area.

From the linked article in the Seattle Times:
Later, the committee co-chairs issued a statement saying the group “has no intention of recommending the elimination of all single family zones in the city.” But the draft report suggests the committee was considering exactly that.

“In fact, (the committee) recommends we abandon the term ‘single family zone,’ ” the draft reads.

An overview letter calls for higher density essentially everywhere in the city.

“More 6-story buildings where there were 4 stories before, more 7-story buildings where there were 6-stories before, and more multifamily housing of all types in areas currently zoned for less density inside (neighborhoods designated as) Urban Villages,” the letter says.

The draft says the changes are necessary because “we are currently confronted by the reality of more dollars chasing a limited supply of housing than ever before in our history.”

It's fascinating to drop into the middle of this and hear the enormous amount of assumed conspiratorial background. The real "world behind the world" is the mass of millions of people who follow this stuff. High Weirdness is alive and well.

They do say that truth is stranger than fiction. It does seem a bit odd, though, about how even if Jade Helm were to be a real thing, they wouldn't allow camera crews to cover it. After health care and education comes media censorship. It's only amatter of time before visiting certain websites gets you a one way trip to the gulag. Remember to turn those radio dials all the way.
