I shoot and edit for the Maplewood police TV show. I did not meet this officer, but it's going to be tough for the department. This coming 8 months after the neighboring city, North St. Paul had an officer killed in the line of duty and another Maplewood officer was injured backing him up.
What's wrong with these people?!
Apparently someone called in a car jacking. They responded and the officer was sitting in his car when they walked up to the car window and shot him.
Charges: Suspect in murder of Maplewood police officer told friend, 'We ... smoked that cop'
The latest...

The officer was still in his car with his seatbelt on...
I just read that; no words. Unbelievable...

The only downside to the suspects in this case is that both weren't aprehended.
I kinda feel that the one shot got away with something. I can't explain exactly because death is really the ultimate price, but I felt he could have and deserved to be punished more.
Like, say, a bullet in every joint (and I mean every joint, including knuckles/toes/etc), let him heal, then repeat? That's my punishment for people like this.
Scenario: you go out to dinner as a family, and 2-year-old mistakes dad's White Russian for a glass of milk and takes a sip when you're not looking.
Normal response: "NO. That is yucky. That drink is for grown-ups. Tastes bad, doesn't it?" Laughs all around.
2010 Uhmerica response: flip out at the waitress for not watching your crotchfruit, call the paramedics, notify the media, refer to your dinner as a "crime scene," and state you're refusing to eat at the restaurant again.
Oh South Boston... keep on encouraging every stereotype I've ever heard about you...

“He’s a smart 2-year-old,” she said. “We go (to Rainbow Dragon) all the time, but I’ll never go back.”
Just seven months earlier, Erickson had crumpled in a heap on a downtown Bowling Green sidewalk, momentarily unconscious, a bone in her right leg shattered into shards, and her softball career a closed and shelved book. Two brawling patrons from a nearby establishment had tumbled out of the bar, and one shoved the other, estimated by witnesses to be in excess of 200 pounds, into Erickson as she and her friends walked past.
Erickson never saw the impact coming and was crushed by the weight of the man as he landed on top of her. She was thrown into a metal pole, striking her head. In a move where only their cowardice trumped their recklessness, the two men fled the scene while Erickson's friends huddled around her. They were never identified.
The Arizona sky was endless that day in March, the temperature a comfortable 70, and the modest crowd of about 1,600 had to feel that conditions were nothing less than ideal for a softball game.
They had no idea, however, that what they were witnessing was much more than just another game.
At some point in the second inning, Whitney Erickson hit a double and stood on second base - a place logic had pounded its fist on the table and told us she would never reach. She tried to stay composed while her teammates were going crazy celebrating in the dugout. Erickson's coaches fought to balance emotion-driven smiles with the required decorum of the moment.
Kind of a double sided coin here.

Feel good story about a Gopher Softball player's fight to be able to play again. Amongst the story is two losers who deserve to have their rights revoked for a couple of hours. Here's the Nice Planet part but read the whole story.
and the feel good part.
