Umm yeah: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/03/03/american-family-associati_n_484022.html

The American Family Association, a religious right group, is urging that Tillikum (Tilly), the killer whale that killed a trainer at SeaWorld Orlando, be put down, preferably by stoning. Citing Tilly's history of violent altercations, the group is slamming SeaWorld for not listening to Scripture in how to deal with the animal:

Says the ancient civil code of Israel, "When an ox gores a man or woman to death, the ox shall be stoned, and its flesh shall not be eaten, but the owner shall not be liable." (Exodus 21:28)

However, the group is going further and laying the blame for the trainer's death directly at the feet of Chuck Thompson, the curator in charge of animal behavior, because, according to Scripture,

But, the Scripture soberly warns, if one of your animals kills a second time because you didn't kill it after it claimed its first human victim, this time you die right along with your animal. To use the example from Exodus, if your ox kills a second time, "the ox shall be stoned, and its owner also shall be put to death." (Exodus 21:29)

SeaWorld has no plans to execute Tilly.

Re: Nice Planet © 2009

The two key words in all of this nonsense, "killer" ****ing "whale", for zombie jeebus' sake, if the people working with them don't understand that there's a chance the apex predator they are working with may decide they want to play with them, then they shouldn't be working in that field.

That said, Poe's law is strong.

exactly!!!. For all we know "Tilly" thought he was going to play with the trainer. How is he supposed to know that she can't hold her breath under water for more than a few minutes.

It isn't the responsibility of the whale to know the human's behavior, it is the human's responsibility to know the whales behavior.

I vote for public execution. Very slow public execution. With baseball bats.
Makes me think of a book I'm reading. 'World Without End' by Ken Follett, sequel to 'The Pillars of the Earth'. Set in 14th century England, somebody gets caught stealing religous artifacts from a cathedral. He's found guilty, and the sentance is Flaying. What follows is about 4 pages describing the process of peeling his skin off while he's still alive. Wow.

Stupid planet, stop hitting yourself!

JPL research scientist Richard Gross computed how Earth's rotation should have changed as a result of the Feb. 27 quake. Using a complex model, he and fellow scientists came up with a preliminary calculation that the quake should have shortened the length of an Earth day by about 1.26 microseconds (a microsecond is one millionth of a second).

Perhaps more impressive is how much the quake shifted Earth's axis. Gross calculates the quake should have moved Earth's figure axis (the axis about which Earth's mass is balanced) by 2.7 milliarcseconds (about 8 centimeters, or 3 inches). Earth's figure axis is not the same as its north-south axis; they are offset by about 10 meters (about 33 feet).

I know this is wrong to say it, but I can't help myself. Why do I find this hilarious?

Because a lot of bratty, snot-nosed kids would behave themselves a lot better if they knew that there was some bitter old man running around the store waiting to punch em in the head. ;) :D

http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news...d-to-Leave-South-Jersey-Walmart-88118157.html

A man used the public-address system at the Route 42 store in Washington Township Sunday night and calmly announced: "Attention Wal-Mart customers: All black people leave the store now.''

Patricia Covington and Shelia Ellington were inside the store when it happened and told the Courier Post that customers and store employees looked stunned when they heard it.

"I can't believe it in this day and age," Covington told the paper. "Wal-Mart needs to be more responsible."

Covington and Elllington are boycotting the store.

OK, my initial impression is this is some smart-assed kid or store employee who will get fired so fast his or her head will spin. So I don't quite get the point of boycotting the store, it's not like this was store policy or something the management was in any remote way involved in, aside from doing a poor job guarding their PA system. What exactly does a boycott accomplish?

It prevents more people from going to a crappy Wal*Mart store?

This is disgusting as well. I really worry about teenagers these days with all the school shootings, suicides, bullying, etc. It's a scary world sometimes.

The saddest thing to me about this is that her Mom warned school administrators about what was happening. It would appear that a lot of people knew what was going on - and tolerated it. I don't have all the facts but it looks like a really ugly situation for many. RIP Phoebe.

Sounds like a great bed-time story for the youngins..."and you better say your prayers and eat your lima beans or 'The Old Man in Aisle 6' might get you".

add: MoFan - read an article today on school bullying in which it said teachers don't recognize it because they haven't been to enough training. I have a hard time buying that excuse.
