Nice Planet 6: Get Me Off This Planet.

Re: Nice Planet 6: Get Me Off This Planet.

I'd be in favor of both.

The only thing that you and OP constantly bringing these subjects up has done is to desensitize me to them.

You? "Desensitized" to the slaughter in our inner cites? Where none of the victims and shooters, evidently, look like presidential off spring? Where the shooters and victims, usually, share the same racial heritage? How could that be? I'm guessing the Trayvon Martin tragedy made you "pregnant with celestial fire." Or perhaps the "loud music" shooting. What could explain the difference?

I can't quite follow what you're accusing me of, so... Yes?

Re: Nice Planet 6: Get Me Off This Planet.

Oh yeah OP, and go back and look at the Trayvon threads, read what my position was and tell me again what the **** you're babbling about.

Re: Nice Planet 6: Get Me Off This Planet.

So, just like the "GUNS NOT ALLOWED" signs in theatres, somebody sneaks a gun onto an Army base, where you are not supposed to be armed. and kills people. How could he have a gun?? It's NOT ALLOWED!!!

As is always the case after a mass shooting, the usual suspects are suggesting that it would have been possible to stop the slaughter if more people had been armed. And the horror of the situation is only enhanced because this most recent event was the second one on the same base. While it's true that Lopez might have been stopped sooner by another armed GI, those advocating people carrying guns at work steadfastly ignore the other possibilities: accidents, suicides, petty beefs turning lethal etc. This argument is advanced every time. Virginia Tech. Luby's cafeteria. It's emotionally satisfying, but ignores reality. If hundreds or thousands of soldiers were packing heat at Fort Hood, we might see the next Spc Lopez blown away before he could kill anyone. Similarly, we'd see way more than 4 dead from other shooting incidents.

Trust me, rereading your posts is not high on my "to do" list. Besides, that's a diversion. I say again, you know exactly what I'm talking about: so long as they are killing each other in their hundreds, it's no BFB. Not to you. Not to the professional race baiters. And certainly not to the occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. What was a big deal, however, was when the President's mouthy professor buddy was arrested by a white cop in that horrific racial backwater, Cambridge.

not to mention all the people caught up in the crossfire....

I wonder how much of these problems stem back to the absolutely stupid and completely ignorant advocacy that severely psychiatrically disordered people don't "really" need medicine and have a "right" to wander around in public while actively hallucinating?

In the case of Spc Lopez, he evidently had major problems. However, PTSD doesn't appear to one of them. He saw no combat during his four months in Iraq and, if the reports are accurate, self-reported a "traumatic brain injury." From falling off a bar stool in the NCO club? Experts tell us most people with mental problems are no threat to themselves or others. Yet some obviously are. I mean, we have people being seen by private psychiatrists who commit suicide. What we don't know. What we can never know, is how many Spc Lopez' have been identified, treated and prevented from doing anything violent. As surely as night follows day, however, there will be revelations about Lopez which will convince people who weren't there and have no training, that "something could have been done." And perhaps they'll be right.

You're certainly right about cross fire. After the Virginia Tech shootings lots of folks were out, advocating students should pack heat. That maybe an armed student could have stopped Woo Tang Clan before the body count got too high. Is turning a psych classroom into a free fire zone the way to protect kids? In that high stress, target rich environment, how reasonable is it to assume that Clan will be the only one hit?

You constantly post the stories about these killings as a political jab at the president. That's your motivation, yet we're to believe that deep down you give a crap about the victims?

Nice try.

No real expert would ever make such a blanket statement. S/he would speak diagnostically about the various conditions. Unmedicated paranoid schizophrenics are among the most dangerous people you ever could meet. Their "voices" are telling them to watch out for any possible threat, and looking at them funny could be perceived by them as a "threat" that would require lethal force in "self-defense." They wouldn't want to hurt you, they are "merely" protecting themselves.

Yet if they take their medications faithfully and get on-going outpatient counselling, they can function, after a fashion.

There are some "advocates" out there that think any condition can be "cured" without ongoing medication, and they are just plain wrong. Just like certain kinds of diabetes require insulin to live, certain kinds of chemical imbalances require pharmaceutical stabilization.

Nice try.

I post those stories because the deaths of those innocent inner city residents (children, grand parents, people in the wrong place at the wrong time) is as big a tragedy as the killing of that boy in the"loud music" case. But only the killing of a black kid by a white shooter gets national attention. The rest of the time, it's just them killing each other, and what can we do about it? I post these stories as a jab to all liberals who are willing to overlook or excuse the slaughter because it's not politically expedient to bring it up. Who find themselves bloviating about "stand your ground" and other irrelevancies when a white guy shoots a black guy. But when it comes to black on black crime the response is "move along, nothing to see here." Obama is far from the only racial hypocrite in this country, just the most prominent.

When confronted with an unpleasant truth, you've always got your old standby, don't you? Accuse me of racism. It's a reflex, isn't it?

What in my response had anything to do with calling you a racist? I simply stated that you don't care for the victims any more than the rest of an unfeeling world does. You're just using the stories to make a point on a message board.

A really tired point by now...

We get it. Obama talks out of both sides of his mouth.

Of course, saying I don't "give a crap" about victims of black on black crime is your way of saying I'm not a racist. You guys just throw that garbage around constantly without a second thought. From your perspective it doubtless is a "tired point" to demonstrate how hypocritical lefties are on the subject of race. From your perspective better to try to make this about me rather than you and your hypocritical lefty pals. But it isn't. And it really isn't about Obama, since America's inner cities were killing zones before he became president and will remain so after he leaves office. The hypocrisy runs deeper and is far more broadly distributed than one race baiter.

I'm simply calling you on your motivation - which has nothing to do with any concern for the victims imo. If you cared, you wouldn't trivialize them by using them in such a fashion. Calling the shooters brain surgeons, stamp collectors or whatever else you find to be witty that day doesn't demonstrate a whole lot of empathy for the victims. You're using them as part of a punch line.

Read into what I said all you want.

It is interesting how you don't like to be pigeonholed yet nearly every post you make blanket statements lefties, libtards and "you guys."

You must have skipped class the day "thugs" and similar terms were deemed "racist". By people on your side of the divide, incidentally. Other than that, what evidence can you adduce, aside from your prejudices, that anyone who disagrees with you on matters involving race, has no concern for the victims of black on black crime? It is a warm, comforting prejudice, isn't it? In one breath you say you're only calling me on my motivation. In the next you suggest my use of certain terms "proves" I really don't care about them. It's like a junkie "getting well", isn't it? Incidentally, the terms I use refer to the shooters, not the victims, but hey, since when is nuance relevant when you're accusing me, yet again, of being a racist?
