Re: Nice Planet 6: Get Me Off This Planet.

When are people going to learn you don't raise a gun, toy or not, at a police officer...they will shoot you.
He had it in his head that it was an AK, which would be pretty dangerous to him. It doesn't matter that the caller was wrong. Since he was expecting a lethal gun, it resembled a gun, and was carried and pointed like a gun, he (mis)identified it as a gun. Could he have correctly identified it given enough time? Sure. But if it were a real gun in the hands of someone intending to do him harm, he would be dead within that time. There are absolutely no winners here.

Don't point anything that looks like a firearm at a cop.

Bad things can happen when you do.

Re: Nice Planet 6: Get Me Off This Planet.

No one faulted Sgt. Al Powell for shooting a kid who brandished a toy guy that looked real enough...

Re: Nice Planet 6: Get Me Off This Planet.

Well, I am planning a holiday trip to Houston, so maybe I'll do this. Nativity scenes and other religious symbols in public places upset me. Outside a church, fine. In the public square or at a public school, not so much.

Sorry, I'm just sick of people whinning about a "war on Christmas". No one is telling others they can't enjoy their religious holidays. I just ask that they stop jumping up and down yelling, "look at me, look at me, it's a holiday! Everyone must acknowledge that it is a holiday for me or I'll throw a tantrum!"

Everyone thinks, "oh what's it hurt?" But children shouldn't have to feel excluded from public school activities because of religion. I had a Jehovah's Witness in my elementary school and she had no friends because she was the weird girl that didn't say the pledge of allegiance every morning. As kids we didn't understand why, we just knew she was excused from it and we had to recite it.

/Just my opinion. Bah Humbug!

I never said, nor do I believe there's a "war on Christmas." There is, however, a competition by attention loving a*sholes every December to see how much mischief they can cause. How many people they can p*ss off with their ridiculous claims about "establishing" a religion. How many people they can bully into surrendering their right to freedom of religion. How far they can extend their "right" not to be "offended." Far too many of us supinely accept this nonsense as "freedom of religion." It is nothing of the kind. Were the Jewish kids in my grade school "harmed" by singing Christmas carols? I don't know for certain, but I doubt it. Was I hurt when I made a Mezuzah in class? Don't think so.

BTW, your Jehovah's Witness schoolmate would face something worse than being looked down on by her classmates in an emergency room. She'd face death if her parents refused to allow her a transfusion. Would your delicate sensitivities permit doctors to administer that life saving therapy over their objections?

This girl and her friends attend UMDumb. Just sayin'...

I hope she finished her finals before this week. How do professors normally proceed with a case where a student ends up in the hospital, causing them to miss a final?

The Star Trib reported the drinking game to be Ride The Bus, which is a harsh enough game with beer. And she was playing with tequila. She's a smart one.

That's a fun game! We played with liquor too, well, strong mixed drinks, and no one froze to death. And we have a rocket, instead of a bus.

As they should. Sadly, 13 is plenty old enough to know this.

Tips for not having your kid get shot while on the street with a realistic looking BB gun:
- Don't let your kid out on the street with a realistic looking BB gun.

Because getting rid of BB guns is an actual solution.

Or, don't be a dip****, and actually teach your kid something, like, I don't know, common sense like DON'T POINT ANY GUN AT ANY PERSON EVER. It was the first thing I was taught when I got a BB gun, and it stuck. Guess what, I never shot anyone, or got shot by the police.

Where did he say we should get rid of BB guns? The second part of your post is correct, and I think that is what he meant - parents have to be responsible for their kids and teach them how to properly use and handle all projectile weapons. Heck, I wasn't allowed to handle any of our guns without my dad present until I was about 16.

Teachers union-goonery: fighting for a severance package for a teacher convicted of sexually abusing a student. First things first.

Jeebus, my family drives through that area to get to our place in Presque Isle. Funny how this story has been buried by the Detroit-area media. Unfortuntely, I also have to consider this article is from a cable media source, so I'm sure neither of us are getting the full story here.

You can't take anything at face value these days, for sure. Normally with Fox I'll provide whatever link they provide. In this instance, they didn't. Many months ago I posted something from Fox which generated the customary catcalls from the customary people (Kepler being first among them). I then posted the same item, essentially verbatim, from the Nuevo York Times and suddenly everyone was all Emily Litella: Never mind.

Anyway, here's another version of the story.

I assume the basic facts are as reported. You know, unionized teachers exert an enormous amount of political power in Michigan. That may account for the reluctance of the Freep to cover the story. Far worse to me than the union wanting this guy to get his severance package was teachers asking the judge for mitigation of sentence. Any teacher who asks for mercy for a convicted child rapist should find another line of work, IMO.

I've heard "Ride The Rocket" also.

At least it wasn't "High Or Low (solo version)." She'd have died before she left the party!
