Scumbag bodega owners try to scam man out of million winning lottery ticket
http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/nyc-crime/scam-article-1.1527269

Cops said a 34-year-old Spanish-speaker with limited English bought the $10 “Unwrap the Cash” scratch-off lottery ticket Thursday at the convenience store.

Instead of following protocol and directing the man to a State Lottery office to claim his prize, Karim allegedly told him the ticket was worth $1,000 and gave him the “winnings” straight out of the register.

On Friday the victim, suspecting he’d been ripped off on his scratch-off win, returned to the deli and began to press Karim about how much he’d won, according to police.

You know, I don't want to get into FlagDUDE territory here, but certainly there are some cops in this country who feel they need to enforce the "rules" and laws to the written hilt, all the way to the point of their own interpretation, as we apparently see here. Are we getting all of this story? I can't say for sure.
I would like to know if there is a cop today that has a lick of common sense.

Maybe I'm missing something cause I don't have kids... But what the hell happened to school being over at 2:35pm or whenever? School ends at one time for some, and another time for others? How the hell is it acceptable for some kids to have to sit around for a long time after school is out?

Sounds like there are different times in "The South".

The other possibility is honors or AP classes, but considering the alleged traffic volume, I doubt it. Personally, I was sent to a private school, where our AP "extra time" method was to either have students start 15 minutes early (7:30) or end 15 minutes late (2:45), each and every day except rare half days (perhaps 2-3 times a year). I've heard that in Michigan public schools, AP classes have a twice-a-week double period at the beginning or end of the day, so students come in or stay much earlier/later on, say, Mondays and Thursdays. But considering I did not go to public grade school starting in 2nd grade, I'm not qualified to say exactly how they operate.

Our AP classes were held at the same times as regular classes. You just took AP Calc instead of a different class.

I'm with you on that. That or they just shipped em out on buses. Hell, in my school district, they had the elementary and middle schools right next to each other and they both got out at about the same time so that they could just load up the buses at the same time. There isn't enough room in the area for every parent to come there to pick their kids up. After that, the parents and kids had to make other arrangements to get picked up or whatever.

I went to high school in Tennessee, and we had an "optional" extra period (55 minutes) for kids who wanted to take more classes than the normal day allowed, so there were two different pickup times. Not too many kids took the extra class, though - there weren't even any buses at that time, so you had to drive or be picked up.
