Re: Nice Planet 5: Insert Catchy Title Here

You know the Chicago media (especially the Tribune) were always trying to find personal corruption in Mayor Daley's life. They never found any. He lived in a modest brick bungalow in the "back of the yards." You'd never know it was the mayor's house except for the limo and the very large cops. He had a little summer place in Michisconsin and that was it. Chicago made up for it with the election of Harold Washington, who failed to file federal taxes for five straight years, despite the fact that his birthday was on April 15th!

But this guy is in a corruption class of his own. He's in Edwin Edwards territory.

Are you talking about Richard or Ritchie?

Richie hadn't been a Bridgeport resident for a long, LONG time....

I'm talking about King Richard I. One of the great scenes in 13 Days is when they're considering canceling a visit to Chicago because of the looming crisis in Cuba. JFK says "you're afraid of Daley." Kenny O' Donnell says: "You're GD right I am." JFK says he's not and goes off camera, ostensibly to call Daley and cancel. O'Donnell says "Watch this." Next instant, JFK's in Chicago, kissing Daley's ring. The first guy JFK invited to spend a night in the Lincoln bedroom was Dick Daley.

For those of us who have been around long enough, Richie is just an apostrophe. The old man was "Da Mare," in Mike Royko's words.

http://engineeringevil.com/2013/10/...y-for-streaking-at-high-school-football-game/

Sad story all around. 15 year old kid goes streaking at a football game. Administration threatens him with expulsion and being put on the sex offender registry. Kid goes home and kills himself.

That right there is why there should be different levels of the Sex Offender Registry. He did that on a dare. That's a whole lot different from some 50 year old who's trying to talk a 13 year old into coming over to hang out at his pool so he can give her booze and other shibby. Since when is being naked a sexual act anyways??

There are already different levels of the Sex Offender Registry in some states. What we shouldn't be doing is forcing people to register as sex offenders for petty crimes like streaking, public urination, prostitution, or solicitation (unless minors are involved, obviously).

Your party's shut down. OWN IT!

Your party is letting the NPS run around like common thugs... own it. That can be stopped tomorrow with a single executive order.

Oh, it was those awful republicans that arrested those veterans (as has happened)... those awful jerks who are actively preventing people from using the grass between Independence and Constitution Ave.

You know I was wondering what kind of goose-steppery was being justified around here in the name of penalizing the public in the name of politics. Didn't have to go far, did I?

Did you know I can do somersaults on the Department of Labor's grass at 2nd and Constitution NW... no barricades around those. I thought this was about keeping people off of federal grounds... wait, it isn't.

Did people in the government or otherwise become a helpless actor in the last two weeks that cannot help themselves from becoming monumentally petty towards the American people?

Did you know there are other NPS places within DC they aren't barricading because most people don't care so much about them?

Frankly, the people should be ticked off about the machinations of the small brained weasels that are allowing to do this stuff to the citizens they are supposed to serve, via the civil system or otherwise. The federal gov't is not an entity to which I am subject... its an entity of the people. Yet, we see it actively trying to defeat the people. Seems like there's something rotten here and somehow I can't exactly imagine its the fault of one side of the capital building. Who knew one vote caused so many automatons to do things. All, a-responsible automatons.

One EO cleans up the goose-stepping. It has nothing to do with Republicans. The government chose to goose-step. They can also choose not to. Take some responsibility.

edit: why do we need armed force stop me from touching the grass that belongs to the people?

Repubs shutdown the government. They need to own it.

It's fair to say that the Dems are trying to make the shutdown as painful as possible (within somewhat reasonable limits) in a childish response to the shutdown.

The GOP (and their online fanboys) are taking that and running with it the extent that I'm not sure most of them even understand what's causing the shutdown.

True and true.

I imagine that Hannity and O'Reilly and Fox & Friends are leading with a veteran next to a barricade at a monument 24/7, so it's hard for the fanboys to be objective.

Wouldn't be surprised if Lee Greenwood has been stopping by on a regular basis.

Maybe they should look at the poll numbers? Or their own 401K's? Or some objective reporting on the Affordable Care Act?

I already did. I don't like it one bit and Obama's a tool for allowing it.

But are you honestly going to try and equate your (or anyone else's) inconvenience with getting at a few public spaces with the things that I cited that veterans are having to or may have to deal with due to the shut down that the GOP intentionally caused so that they could score political points?

I haven't even mentioned non-veterans.

How about the ripples through Wall St. due to your party's petulance?

Do you understand scale on any level?

They can't.

They're unable to be objective on any level.

If right wing media doesn't spoon feed it to them, they won't admit it.

Any right wing media that tries gets labeled a rhino.

I have these people in my personal life and every time I feel like this (fill in the blank) will be the thing that opens their eyes and at least makes them slightly objective, it never does. I've realized that it's because they don't actually hear about it due to where they're getting their information from.

Even if they do hear it in passing, they assume that it must be lies by the mainstream media - coz they've been conditioned that everything from the mainstream media is a lie.

To be honest, right wing media has done a great job of securing their demographic. Years and years of pounding them has paid off with viewers/listeners who just won't question... well, anything.

It's a product of living within the echo chamber. They're lost.

Looks more to me like they both shut it down, seeing as how neither side could come to an agreement.

Right on cue, a message has escaped the echo chamber into the real world.

Re: Nice Planet 5: Insert Catchy Title Here

An agreement on what, exactly? De-funding or otherwise crippling the Affordable Health Care Act? Has it not occurred to some of you folk that the Affordable Health Care Act is law, voted on by the legislature, signed by the executive and upheld by the judiciary? The government is not honor-bound to alter it just because the majority of one house wants it gone.

Unless the Supreme Court undoes it's decision on the matter or until the Senate joins the House in wanting to undo the law (and gets the President to sign off on it), it's law and it's not changing. So to refuse to pass any other legislation unless everyone else agrees to change course is just ridiculous.
