Actually there is a "plethora of goodness" in American society. And it's not hidden. It's just that you're dedicated to the glass being half empty. And you're always on the lookout for any data, no matter how insignificant, that confirm your biases.

What we don't know is whether the number (or percentage) of a*sholes has increased or whether technology gives them the opportunity to share their a*sholery with us. Is it necessarily a good idea to allow anonymous t*rds the opportunity to infect our dialogue? What percentage of Americans, do you think, even pay attention to Miss America anymore, let alone who wins, let alone what her heritage is?

As is customary, my primary concern is with "journalists" who can't wait to pass along a handful of hateful messages as "proof" of something or other. Like the "journalists" who heard the word "coons" in George Zimmerman's 9-11 call, who edited that call in a way to emphasize his "racist" feelings and who for months showed pictures of Trayvon Martin when he was 12.

Some of us who post here obviously think a microscopic percentage of us accurately represent all the "evils" of our society. These people are also probably convinced Mary Moorman's Polaroid shows a shooter on the "grassy knoll."
