In Tokyo, it's not uncommon for mom and pop noodle shops and the land they sit on to be valued in the millions (dollars not Yen). And when mom and pop want to finance a new rice cooker they've got no problem getting the loan.

Progress is a trade off isn't it? The kinds of people who could only express themselves in men's rooms or by cutting letters out of magazines in the past can now spray sunshine all over the d*mn place.

Now the Army is apparently preparing to bring Article 15 charges (non-judicial punishment) against a Christian soldier. Among his heinous crimes--having Chick-fil-A cater his promotion party to E-8, anti-Obama bumper stickers and reading unapproved works by the likes of Hannity, Limbaugh, etc. Article 15s can result in loss of pay, reduction in rank, etc. The guy is a 25-year veteran. If he's reduced in rank, or forced out or denied promotion to E-9 (the highest enlisted rank), it will have huge financial implications. Retirees with 20 years service get 50% of base pay every month. With 30 years service that jumps to 2/3. So retiring as an E-8 or lower, with less than 30 years in, could deprive him of tens of thousands of dollars. It surely sounds like an uneven standard of justice is being applied here.

The people conducting this witch hunt need to answer the question what they would do with a soldier reading the Koran while in a unit of stereotypical rednecks. If they answer anything differently than what they are doing go Sgt. Sommer, they are being hypocritical in his pursuit.

40 acres of high quality farmland is worth in the $300k-$330k range today. I bid $700k for 115 acres 2 years ago and was out-bid. If you're talking 40 acres with say, for example, 20 acres of fields, 15 acres of pasture, and 5 acres of farmstead, with a good house a good barn, and a few more outbuildings, you can probably get $500k for that, to sell as a hobby farm.

We're dealing with the most destructive wildfire in state history here in Colorado Springs and there are people looting from evacuated homes. We saw some of this last year during the now second most destructive wildfire in Colorado. However, one woman who evacuated with important pictures, family heirlooms, etc had all of that stuff in her van. She leaves it parked in a parking lot, finds out her home was burned down, comes back to the van to find that thieves have broken into her van and stolen everything she saved from the house.

This is what it feels like to me. This is the same Army, remember, that didn't find "Dr." Hassan's pro-Jihad statements to be even a little concerning. For sure, a 25 year E-8 is no trouble maker

Actually right now its probably closer to being about 25 acres of field, 9 in pasture, and 6 acres between the barnyard, house, creek side that's overgrown and hard to access, and two pretty big pot holes that have trees growing up around them.

Thinking back on it, Dad had some moron come thru last fall to evaluate the place and I guess he gave him some figure just a little under $400,000 on the place as part of the divorce process. Think he was trying to figure out to get some lowball offer so that Mom would buy him out. Not really sure what he really thought he was going to do with that though.
