Re: Nice Planet 2011

What we really need as a modifier is malice/evil. Malice should be an aggravating factor as it contains all the groups which would fall under hate statutes plus a few more.

You mean something like, "Murder is the unlawful killing of a human being by another with malice aforethought?" In other words, the common law definition of murder that we brought over with us from England?

To this day, malice is still an aggravating factor in many violent crimes. See, e.g., depraved heart murder statutes.

(And yes, this is yet another reason why hate crimes legislation is stupid)

(and yeah, not sure how I missed that one 2 weeks ago).

(and yes, I did just perform a combo breaker, as fun as it is to see 6 ignored posts in a row).

(what, you're getting sick of parantheticals?)

Yeah, but I can only bring over so many farkisms at once. And I'd already hit my quota for the month.

Re: Nice Planet 2011

OK, I'll say it. A sh1tty way to die:

At factory hog farms in Iowa, the waste is collected in huge lakes called "lagoons." A few years ago a guy was backing his truck up to a "lagoon" when he lost control, rolled into the "lagoon" and drowned. That's bad enough. But think about the poor guys who had to go in there and recover the body. Calling a lake of pig **** a "lagoon" is one of the great euphemisms of all time.

Re: Nice Planet 2011

Years ago a guy left Margarita's in Orono bleepfaced. The next morning workers at the wastewater treatment facility discovered a chainlink fence at a sharp corner at the bottom of a hill that was destroyed and skid marks leading to one of the pools. I've always felt sorry for the haz-mat divers who had to go in to find the body.

I'm guessing a closed casket service.

Re: Nice Planet 2011

Lawrence O'Donnell soils himself with "outrage" at how the NYC cops treated those "peaceful protestors" on Wall Street. And allows that there's a "Rodney King every day in America." Oh yeah, you lying, whining, libtard bastice? Prove it. Let's go to the video tape. Every day? Go peddle crazy somewhere else.

Let's go to the video tape? Did you watch the video tape? Like the one where the guy walks up and pepper sprays several people who were, as the video shows, standing around?

Just how stupid are you?

Personally I like the one video of the guy repeating "is this what you're about?" and holding an old US flag upside down, (Although in old pio world that probably is reason enough to be arrested) so the police drop him to the ground and arrest him.

Re: Nice Planet 2011

Uh, you're being rather vocal in a non-peaceful manner, possibly taunting the police, up to interpretation on the latter (the guy with the flag). I thought they followed procedure rather well.

My uncle was on the front lines as a young cop during the Hormel strike in MN years ago (see below, from Wiki). Not a pretty picture. Every night, we watched the news, hoping to not see my uncle involved with the protesters. Better safe than sorry.

After six months, a significant number of strikebreakers crossed the picket line, provoking riots in Austin. On January 21, 1986, the Governor of Minnesota, Rudy Perpich, called in the National Guard to protect the strikebreakers. This brought protests against the governor, and the National Guard withdrew from Austin. The action had a greater effect on the UFCW international, which ousted the local P-9.

Re: Nice Planet 2011

Disturbing the peace. Unlawful assembly (did they obtain the proper permits?). Disobeying a police officer.

Yeah, I'd say they were asking for it.
