Yeah Faux owes most of their cache to him...he isnt Glenn Beck cutting ties with O'Reilly is a big friggin deal. The fact that they lost Megyn Kelly (amongst other women) and really only have Hannity that can step up only makes it worse.

Did he pull huge ratings because of his disdain for women or in spite of it? I ask the question because there was no bigger detractor in the media then Bill O'Reilly when it came to discussion about the war on women. He insisted it didn't exist. I wonder why.

Is all the talk about axing Bill O just speculation? I can't believe they'd kill the goose than bears the golden hate eggs.

I'm having difficulty squaring that as well. But, realize, Fox News is owned by a huge conglomerate. If O'Reilly's stink starts to creep over they could be in trouble.

But the business model is the stink. The product they are selling is righty smugness -- "we say what's true regardless of sensibilities hur dur!" They're selling reassurance that the prejudices and factual inaccuracies of their audience are truth, and that the disgust they generate in the rest of the population is the cost of righteousness. And you can see how it works perfectly with the reactionary psychological type.

If Bill O is in trouble for sexual harassment that's not a bug it's a feature. It will play great with all the angry drunk divorced MRA types denied visitation rights by the courts, which may be a majority of his audience.

If that stink spreads past Fox News and into 20th Century Fox itself it's no longer a feature, it's a big problem.

There's a whole middle step to get through: News Corp, and those guys are so gross you would think they'd have infected their parent long ago.

It would not surprise me in the least to find out that both FNC and, say, Democratic Underground had the same owners and board -- the RWNJ message is an accident of which audience responds better to this heavy-handed, top-down ego soothing. If the left were more gullible Fox would be run as a Socialist megaphone. It's a machine for turning rubes into dollars. There just happen, at this moment, to be more rubes on the right than the left.

If that's the case there is no reason to fire him and no reason for him to go on vacation.

He wouldnt be fired because of how he harassed women...for that he gets a raise at Faux. He has committed the cardinal sin though...he is costing them money. Between lawsuits and advertisers fleeing Faux has no choice. It is the capitalist thing to do ;)

People like O'Reilly, Howard Stern, whatever blowhard you want to name, is that not only do they draw the people who are fans, they draw people who AREN'T fans. The non-fans want to hear what these people say next, so they can complain about what crap the hosts spew. ;)

So true! My grandma hated letterman, and used to watch him every night so she could ***** about him the next day!!
