Rooting for the kings but it's time to tweak the delay of game penalty

Can't see the sharks recovering from this loss

Re: NHL Playoffs 2013 - Walruses, Trolls and other assorted creatures.

Well how about that. At least the Sharks are amazing at home. Win the the next two and it's a tie series. It's not like the Kings have been demonstrably better, the Sharks play their game and should win the next two.

How could it be "tweaked?"
It's not like you could determine intent.
It's unfortunate, but IMO, there is nothing wrong with the rule

Heard it suggested somewhere on TV today that it should be similar to icing. Faceoff in your zone and you cannot change.

I'd be for that. It's just too much to give a 2 for that, ESPECIALLY when the team is already short. A five on three for that tips the balance way too much.

Disclaimer: wasn't able to watch SJ/LA game.

The only tweak I can think of is instead of it being a penalty, make it so you can't do a line change. Goalie does it? Penalty.

Re: NHL Playoffs 2013 - Walruses, Trolls and other assorted creatures.

The reason it was made a rule in the first place was to get players to stop clearing it over the glass to relieve pressure and to keep the game moving.
Maybe it's just me but I don't think changing it to a rule like icing would be much of a deterent.

Don't worry, the refs weren't watching either. It deflected off a Kings player, probably impossible to tell in real time, and the Sharks never gave the refs a chance to call a makeup penalty during the 5x3 like they are wont to do in those situations.

Even though that's the reason they made the icing rule the way it is?

They made it so icing the puck means you can't change and the faceoff is in your zone. It was so you didn't do it just to relieve pressure, and to keep the game moving.

I'm well aware of that.
So because the rules were changed for essentially the same reason, they should have the same consequence?
Like I said, I don't see changing it being much of a deterent.
I'm not sure, because I don't have the stats for it, but it doesn't seem like icings have gone down much, but intentional clears over the glass have.
It's an unfortunate thing to have happen, but I don't see it as a reason to change the rule.

Throwing the puck intentionally over the glass was never a problem. No team deserves a 2 minute PP because a player on the other team tried to clear it off the top of the glass and got under it a bit, or the puck was on edge...

Re: NHL Playoffs 2013 - Walruses, Trolls and other assorted creatures.

I think the amount of icing calls has gone down, but maybe it is just me.

I don't know about that. I mean, there are times now where a coach will burn his timeout in the 1st or 2nd period after an icing because his guys are exhausted. Sure, it's more likely he would make that decision in the playoffs instead of November of the regular season, but I could see it being a happy medium for all involved.
