NHL 2026: The Olympics Will Be Mammoth!

Yeah, he simply didn’t see it coming. Which makes sense, seeming they were separated for quite some time and a linesman was still between them.

You know what I didn't expect to be affected by the war in Iran? Hockey.

The lower division IIHF tournaments have all been played, but the Division II B tournament was supposed to be held in the UAE and was canceled, and the Division IV tournament (which would have included Iran) was supposed to be held in Kuwait, but was also canceled. As a result, Netherlands is saved from relegation from 1B to 2A, Israel does not get promoted from 2A to 1B, and the Philippines stay in 3B for another year.

Here's another irony. When the pandemic hit, in order to save the Asian Le Mans Series, they moved all the events to the Middle East. Then, thanks to realizing it costs teams a lot less to compete in the Middle East, they didn't go back to Asia proper for a long time, and just the season before (it's a winter series), they finally put one event back in Malaysia, but left the other two in the Middle East. They kept the same schedule this past winter.

Well, now the 2026-27 schedule release has been delayed by nearly two months. Apparently, it was going to be the same schedule as this past two seasons. But of course they have no idea if they can run the two events in the MIddle East. Ergo, they may have to go back to the original intent of the series, and run all the events in Asia proper. The effect of the pandemic might get wiped out by the effect of the Iran war.

Heavy rumors floating that Hamilton and San Jose will be the next PWHL franchises.

Hamilton makes sense as the arena just finished a remodel and there's definitely space for a team.

I'm not too surprised by San Jose. I figured there would be some West Coast team after Edmonton reportedly dropped out but figured it would be closer to LA (like Anaheim or Ontario).

Las Vegas and Quebec City still in play but I just don't see it for QC.

Wondering if anyone has seen any comparisons between the NBA and NHL playoffs for this year. I've only seen a couple of NBA games that were on ESPN, and with TNT not having BB anymore, hockey is on pretty much every single night between ESPN and TNT/TBS.

Seem like hockey is getting a pretty good hand dealt to them this year with the easier to watch non-streaming time. Still not getting anywhere near the talking head time, but this seems pretty good for hockey.

I don't have either Prime of Peacock so it is like the NBA doesn't exist.

The fracture is going to bite the NBA (and MLB as they continue down that path) in the ass for viewers. NASCAR can attest to that (yet continue to fracture further).

I forget which NBA series it was, but the first four games were all on separate networks.

We have a bit of a race to become the first American in the Triple Gold Club as Matthew Tkachuk will be playing at the World Championships while Tage Thompson and Jackson LaCombe would join if their teams win the Stanley Cup (though it’s unclear if LaCombe would actually qualify as he didn’t play in the Olympics). Additionally, Thompson and LaCombe would break the record for winning all three in the fastest span of time, beating Niklas Kronwall, Mikael Samuelsson and Henrik Zetterberg who won Olympic and Worlds Golds in 2006 and the Stanley Cup in 2008 (Tkachuk would tie the record).
