Calgary trades Matthew Tkachuk to Florida for Jonathan Huberdeau.Tkachuk signed an eight-year contract extension worth $76 million with Florida

It's 1M per year with the rest made up in bonuses.

Also saw Twitter trying to figure out how the deal was done, because eight year deals could only be signed if the player was on the roster for this year's trade deadline OR was already signed through next year's trade deadline.

Meaning Calgary signed him and flipped him.

I'm watching 3Ice on CBS Sportsnet and when it was announced, I had originally thought it was a gimmicky bullshit stunt.

I'm mistaken. It's actually entertaining. It's a short tournament format, 3x3, six skaters and one goalie per team, 8 minute running clock periods, two periods per game. And penalties are just penalty shots.

It's a fun way to kill a couple hours watching hockey.

Calgary made out well - a Top 6 center, a top pairing defenseman, a prospect, and a likely 1st rounder in a few years. Pretty good considering Tkachuk's previous career high was almost 30 points lower and he's unlikely to repeat this season's output without Gaudreau.
