Eakins out as Oil head coach.
MacTavish to be interim bench boss. Todd Nelson (OKC Barons AHL HC) to be promoted to big club in some associate/assistant HC role.
Trivia: All three played or coached for the Chicago Wolves.

Two years ago, during the great Edmonton "Dumpster Dive of 2012," MacTavish, who was FIRED by the Oilers from his Head Coaching position in 2009, was brought back into the organization as GM when Tambellini was let go from that position.
The "Good Ole Boys Network" is keeping the same old retreads employed in Edmonton while appearing like their trying to improve... Eakins, and now Todd Nelson, are outsiders who have (and will be) churned through the Edmonton machine before they go and hire another '80's Oiler as Head Coach. I hear Wayne Gretzky is available...

Wings lose 3 out of 4 in the shootout, and 1 of 6 on the year. I'm ready to admit they need to do something. My personal opinion, which I've expressed in the past (not necessarily here), is that Babcock hates the shootout as much as a majority of the fans, and doesn't practice it very much. He expects to win in regulation or OT. I don't mind that approach, but at some point, you have to admit that it's time for some changes. Starting with throwing new shooters out there, if only to make goalies guess more.

Something, anything, just to change up their shootout luck. Any way Mrazak can take a shootout attempt? I mean as a shooter, and not by coming in cold to replace Howard.
I know Jimmy's shootout numbers aren't great: In five shootouts he has 15 shots against, 11 goals allowed, .267 SV%, but the offense isn't helping. In the six shootouts total the Wings have participated in, they've attempted 19 shots. And scored in just FOUR of them. For a shooting percentage of 21%.

You could put a sheet of plywood in front of the Wings net and the Wings would still lose a shootout because they can't score.
For perspective: Dan Uggla almost hit a baseball with better consistency than the Wings in the shootout, and Uggla was cut by two MLB teams.

I'm not surprised. That call was incredibly weak.
But I'm in the "don't play like crap in the second period and it wouldn't be an issue" camp.

Oh well. Gotta give the Wild credit for battling back in the third - which seems to be their thing lately, no?
The Hawks thought the game was over after two. They were... incorrect.
Will say though that they (the Hawks) woke back up once the game got tied up.
