This is what the Bolts get for going into a shell in the third. Hawks up 2-1 with 5 to go.

To quote Ron Burgundy: I don't even have to say it. Hawks!

In the third?

They went into a shell with 10 to go in the first.

Easily the most boring SCF win for the Hawks that I've seen.

But as I said to the boy... Just trying to win 4 and a Cup. Style points don't matter.

I'll take it. Great win.

We'd like to thank the Tampa Bay Lightning for participating in the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

That too but they weren't aggressive at all in the third until the last 2 or so minutes. They managed a putrid 5 shots on net in the third. Yes it was a rather dull opener. Can only get better hopefully.

You could just see the Hawks biding their time and having more success with getting into the zone. Thinking and adjusting as the time passed. I called it with 10 minutes left in the second to a few friends. Chicago was going to win this game.

Like a veteran team will do at times is survive the first period. The Hawks basically did only giving up one goal when it could of been 2 or 3 rather easily. Halfway thru the second they started to establish themselves and ultimately win it in the third. Crawfords breakaway save in the third was huge. And the Hawks won with Kane and Toews each only having one shot on net. Is it Saturday yet?

This. Will still watch and hope it goes more than five games, but yeah, that game cemented my belief that Chicago wins this hands down.

I'll hold off judgment until after game 2. If we go back to Chicago with the Bolts down 2-0, they're done. No way the Hawks lose two at the UC after that. That said, if the Bolts force a split in Tampa, they're still in this, though as the new "lower seed".

Re: NHL 2015, Part II - Stanley Cup Playoff Race and Beyond

Here's my opinions, based on watching it at the rink.

First, fantastic atmosphere. Blew the Detroit game 7 out of the water. Also, despite the bloggers and news sites trying to make the Tampa ticket policies to be the end of the world and all, Chicago had a very good presence in the stands.

Tampa played with, or better than Chicago for probably 40 minutes in all. They took it to them for the majority of the 1st, a good bit of the second, but then decided to basically forget how to play any sort of conservative hockey in the 3rd. Pretty much 1-3-1/1-4 traps in the 3rd, and hopefully they learned you can't let Chicago come at you at will for 20 minutes in a 1 goal game.

I will say that the Bolts are only 5-6 at home in the playoffs, despite being one of (THE?) best team at home in the regular season. So, they've done this through the playoffs and managed, but they can't afford to lose another down here, be that game 2, 5 or 7 if they are to be lifting Stanley.

I have enjoyed seeing the entire Tampa community really embrace this run. They've had some very packed watch parties outside the rink in the plaza, as well as over near Channelside plaza which is about a 10 minute walk from the rink.

Now to try to talk myself out of splurging on game 2 ticket as well. This Stanley Cup Playoff thing is an addiction, my PSA to you all is to not fall into the black hole.

For most the teams, there doesn't appear to be a correlation.
That's because there is no correlation.:)

All their Stanley Cup appearances come before they host the NCAA. Only thing I saw noteworthy is that hosts have mostly lost in the SCF.
I'm honestly surprised you were able to come up with any pattern at all.

On my end, I simply noticed that the two buildings involved in this year's SC Finals are the next two FF Hosts. Made my smile. That's the all of it.

Sitting here at the Broadmoor watching the honoring of the 1980 Olympic team.

This is the type of game I was expecting from these 2 teams. High flying with scoring chances at both ends. Fun to watch.
