The Leafs would be the right choice. The man that turns that train wreck around and gets a title will be loved forever not only in Toronto but in all of Canada. Plus, an Original 6, come on.

I think his international success for Canada already assures hes loved. He only has the 1 cup in his 13 seasons as a coach in the NHL. So it's not like he is a sure thing to turn anyone into a contender.

How many seasons has DET bailed early in the playoffs?

How many times have they missed? I'd also argue he's done pretty well with what he has for a roster ie an aging core, continuously losing talented D to work with, never had elite goaltending at any point in his career etc. When the core was in its prime they got to two cups and won one. I'd also say he's done a solid job with Team Canada which despite being stacked, aren't necessarily a lock for gold.

As for turning around Toronto it's going to take time, there isn't much talent to work with or depth for that matter.

He's certainly an upgrade for TOR. I'm just saying he's not likely "the savior".

Toronto overpaid a bit, IMO. Babs is good, but he's not singlehandedly fixing that trainwreck.

I'm not too upset about losing Babs. The situation had grown a bit stale and each season seemed to follow the same script of 1. Start average 2. Go on hot streak 3. Slump 4. Even out 5. Eek into playoffs

I'll expect Blashill to take over once the Griffins are out/win it all.

This was my feeling as this played out once the season ended. Detroit's situation has grown quite stale though, IMO. The team has become focused only on extending the playoff streak over the last few seasons, it seems. A new approach is needed.

I just realized that if the Rangers-Tampa Bay series goes seven games, I'll be in NYC for game 7. Hmmmm.

On the other hand, if the Rangers keep giving up six goals a game, and Lundqvist keeps getting beaten by wrist shots from 35 feet out in overtime, you might want to spend that $750 on behind the dugout seats at a Yankees game.

even so, I wish that Shaw's header goal could somehow have counted. That was really clever and opportunistic.


I have a bad feeling about the Ducks - 'hawks series. It reminds me of a boxing match in which one boxer only delivers body blows, hard and persistent, all fight long, until the last round when the other fighter is too tired to lift his arms and gets KO. It seems like the Ducks are more interested in repeatedly putting hard hits on the 'hawks' defensemen than they are in taking the puck away from them. That might be legal but it's not very appealing, at least not to me. If I want MMA I can tune in elsewhere, I was hoping to watch some actual hockey not a war of attrition first with hockey as an afterthought.
