Re: NHL 2015, Part II - Stanley Cup Playoff Race and Beyond

The only reasonable thing they can do is to shrink the goaltenders' pads.
Curved posts on the nets. Keep the height 4 feet and the base 6 feet but curve the posts out so at the mid-point they are 6'6" apart. Barely visible to the fans in the seats or on TV but even 3 more inches of shooting space on either side of the goalie would be enough for plenty of snipers to exploit. It goes without saying the goalie pads need to be shrunk back to the sizes they were before the 1990s.

Then how do I make driveway goals with 2 x 4s or pvc pipe?:)

They've already shrunk leg pads once, it's highly unlikely they'll do it again. It's really tough to fault the goalies for being tall AND athletic because even tall goalies can be beat if they lack talent. Just ask Garth Snow.

Can the Hawks win The Cup skating 4 defenseman?

Re: NHL 2015, Part II - Stanley Cup Playoff Race and Beyond

Well, for the 2 1/2 minutes of the game I actually got to see (thanks Comcrap), I did not expect the Rangers to go in the tank like that.

Tampa vs. Anaheim? Could be some good hockey but probably only 156 people will watch.

As much as I don't want Babcock to leave the Wings, I wish him the best and want to see Blashill handed the reins.

I don't want to see Ken Holland screw up on Blashill. He's done amazing with the Griffins, and now that those players have become Red Wings, who knows those players better?

Much too early to call either series, IMHO. Gotta admit I was a little shocked by how the third period played out last night. And yet, the Rangers looked pretty dominant in Game 1. Going forward, I have no idea how to handicap this one. If anything, I'm more confused now than when the series started.

As for the West, if the Ducks continue to be that strong on the PK, we've got a problem. And yeah, lack of depth on the Blackhawk blueline is at least an issue. But I'm not counting the Hawks out just yet. Still expect a long series. And as we saw last night in the East, Game 1 performance is no guarantee of Game 2 performance.

TV ratings stateside would suffer, especially in comparison to an Original Six Series pitting NYC against Chicago. But hey, it's the Cup. Interest in the two competing markets would be high; I'm guessing TV ratings in Canada would be fine; and those of us on this thread will be watching. Including lurkers, isn't that 156 people right there? ;)

I'd agree that having NBC and/or the advertisers to take a hit would be a negative. In general, I've pretty happy with the coverage -- at least in terms of having access to all of the games. But if the ratings dip does occur... well, it's not going to keep me awake at night.

If the Blackhawks were to lose, I'd find that a little upsetting. And beyond any rooting interest, a few more West Coast starts would cost me some sleep. But a ratings dip, no.

Looks like he might stay in Motown. He's definitely not coming to Toronto, so that opens the door for Blashill. Or how about Blasi? The Toronto native following in the steps of Hakstol?

I think all signs are pointing to that, but until such time that he makes the announcement you always allow for the possibility that something could come out of left field.

“He’s definitely not coming to Toronto.

"But I think the offer he got in Buffalo is intriguing, but I think he looks at the team realizes there’s still a lot of work to be done there. He wants to win now, he wants to compete for Cups, he’s going to have a better opportunity to do that in Detroit.

“He’s had conversations with St. Louis and San Jose. I don’t think the San Jose one was more a courtesy call on the part of the Sharks, and probably the same thing for Babcock. I don’t think they necessarily offered him the job.

“At this point, I think post people would be extremely surprised if he doesn’t come out and say he’s staying with the Red Wings.

If they want to increase scoring they should actually start calling penalties again. Number of PP's per game has gone down since 2006 and not all that surprisingly scoring has as well. Maybe they should start calling obstruction and all that stuff again... (shocking I know)

Re: NHL 2015, Part II - Stanley Cup Playoff Race and Beyond

If St. Louis went behind Hitch's back and made Babs an offer, to me that's the only option to leave Detroit that makes some sense. Toronto still has to spend the next 2 seasons tanking for picks, and Buffalo has done that, but their young guys are all still projects with few veteran players to help mentor them.

Yeah, it would be a much more interesting game if interference were illegal (as the rulebook says but the refs don't call it).

Re: NHL 2015, Part II - Stanley Cup Playoff Race and Beyond

Amen. Call the rulebook as it should instead of adding to it.

Re: NHL 2015, Part II - Stanley Cup Playoff Race and Beyond

Per TSN guys, Babcock ruled out Buffalo first. Has ruled out Detroit. Appears to be down to the Leafs, Sharks and Blues
