I'm pretty sure only the team with the extra attacker forfeits the loser point.

84.2 Overtime – Regular-season – Extra Attacker - A team shall be allowed to pull its goalkeeper in favor of an additional skater in the overtime period. However, should that team lose the game during the time in which the goalkeeper has been removed, it would forfeit the automatic point gained in the tie at the end of regulation play, except if the goalkeeper has been removed at the call of a delayed penalty against the other team. Should the goalkeeper proceed to his bench for an extra attacker due to a delayed penalty call against the opposing team, and should the non-offending team shoot the puck directly into their own goal, the game shall be over and the team that was to be penalized declared the winner.

Just grabbed playoff tickets to the Lightning home games 2 and 3. They are restricting sales to Florida residents, and also banning opposing logos in a couple club areas. Now, I hope (lol?) that the Wings match up with them. Otherwise, I might fly up to Montreal. Although I'm at work until April 16th, the day after they are slated to start.

Yes, I'm a sucker for punishment.

Heard an interesting proposal for the race to the #1 draft pick.

As soon as your team is eliminated from the post season, you then start accumulating "Points After Elimination". The team with the most PAE at the end of the regular season gets the #1 draft pick. You can't tank - you have to win your way to the #1 pick.

I would think for teams like Buffalo and Phoenix that know they won't make the playoffs, this would just move the tanking to earlier in the season. The race to mathematical elimination.

But you have to start winning some time. Otherwise the complete tank gets you a draft pick in the high single low double digits.

Fair enough, but consider if this would have been in place this season. What a tremendous opportunity for a team like the Wild who were in the midst of an absolute tail spin in the middle of January and found themselves well entrenched in the bottom half of the Western conference despite having a very talented team. I've got to believe it would have been very tempting to just give in and tank the season until elimination and prepare to throw it into high gear after that. Not only would you still have tanking, but you'd also be undermining the purpose of the current draft ordering format.

But if you cash out late, you can't accumulate the points that somebody who is in the Buffalo/Arizona/Edmonton/Toronto class who crashed early.

I guess I don't have a good sense of when those teams were eliminated in comparison to when the Wild could have realistically gotten to that point. But, a good team could certainly make up ground on those bottom tier teams in a hurry.

That's the point. The worst teams are still more likely to get the top picks, but they actually have to work for them instead of just being terrible.

Is it too late for the Wings to tank for a better draft pick? I was hoping their awful month of March was over, but alas, they had one more game get away from them tonight.
