Burish is being waived to be bought out, and Scott and Hannan won't be re-signed.

Looks like Doug Wilson is coming off his yearlong acid trip.

The Sharks are a lost cause until they trade Marleau & Thornton (GASP). They need to dump those guys and rebuild.

Re: NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

How did Hawks fans treat Chelios when he would return to Chicago playing for the Wings?

His story is a little like Dustin Penner's.

Chelios was a favorite of mine when he was a Hawk and is an all time favorite Hawks player for me.

The way he was treated on his heritage night was a self inflicted wound. I would have cheered for him, but I don't blame and understand those that didn't.

I don't believe he was ever the sharpest of tools...

I always thought Cheli left the Hawks when it was clear Dollar Bill had no interest in spending the kind of money needed to field a team that would compete for the Cup.

Most rational people have no problem with Chelios leaving when he did or why he did. He once said he'd never play for the Wings, but I have no problem with people changing their minds - especially considering the circumstances. Wirtz wasn't trying to win and was running the team into the ground. Can't expect a guy to waste the remainder of his career.

The issue that many Hawks fans who now hate him (sports hate) have is the way that he behaved once with the Wings. Bringing the Cup to Chicago and taking it to Wrigley and other places felt to some as if he was rubbing it in fans' faces - when he was probably just trying to rub it in Wirtzs' face, and rightfully so. Doubt he was trying to be malicious towards the fans, but they were the collateral damage. It was a lot like the Favre situation.

Also the Hawk's 75th anniversary photo where he refused to wear a Hawks jersey and instead wore a Wings one is unforgivable even to me. Is it a great troll? Sure... if you want to be thought of as a troll on that stage. It was petty and classless and my guess is that he'd redo if he could - but maybe not. Like I said, he's not known for his intelligence.

Still one of my all time favorite Hawks (and an all-time great) as I choose to remember his time with us on the ice and not his antics off the ice after he left.

So, he was a classless ***. No wonder he's one of your favorites. :p:D

A lot of bonus points for the Hawks next year. Should be 4 in 7 barring anything bizarre happening.

I like the way you think. :)

Cheer up. At least you have the Gophers.

Gonna be in Chicago today. Gotta get my third championship hat, a pint glass, maybe a shirt...

Yeah, well, at least the Wild won't suck me in again. I'll be there for the whole ride but I'll be a lot more guarded.

Re: NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

Will be very interesting to see how coaches scheme for this [3 x 3 in overtime].

There are definitely situations in which I'd be tempted to not use a goalie, at least as a "catch them off-balance" move....
-- Maybe take possession in your own end and have the goalie skate up ice alongside the player in possession of the puck on the way to the bench?
-- Have someone who wins an insane percentage of face-offs on your team? If you are the home team with the last substitution, pull the goalie right before the face-off in the opponents' end?

Haha.

You'll get sucked in... without question.

You were calling for the Wild to sweep the Hawks before the series.

:)

Skating the goalie out to the bench and keeping pace with the puck carrier isn't going to fool anyone since the NHL has such restrictive rules on where a goalie can touch the puck. Add to that, it'll slow down your puck carrier when 3x3 is extremely fast, open ice. There's not nearly as much jostling for position once you've removed 40% of the skaters from the rink, especially when the 3 remaining on each side are going to be their best skaters - speed kills.
