NHL 2015-16: John Scott for MVP!

Re: NHL 2015-16: John Scott for MVP!

Needed to score when the Hawks took the Too Much Man penalty. Or when we ran the first OT. Whatever. Two more kicks at the can.
Earlier in the series, your PP cashed in on the Kane High Stick in a very similar situation. On our side, the experience was: Oh no, deja vu all over again. Grateful the PK was successful this time. Would point out that in a close series these things often tend to even out.

If the Blues continue to dominate the 3rd Period, one of the two "kicks" will likely be successful. On the other hand, if the Hawks are finally beginning to solve the stingy Blues' D, we've got a decent shot at completing the comeback. Stay tuned, as I know you will.

And Foley has never been one to hold back feelings on these issues. He famously lambasted recently traded Alexi Karpovtsev during mid game. It's my personal favorite audio clip (and ranks up there with Lee Elia and Earl Weaver).

Link or it never happened. :)

I love Foley.

Re: NHL 2015-16: John Scott for MVP!

NBCSN did not appreciate the Comcast analyst's comments on the start time of these late NHL playoff games. So they cut him off mid-sentence.
Which was pretty dumb on NBCSN's part. All they did was call more attention to Foley's comment.

BTW, thanks for posting the link. I wondered what the rest of the comment was. Which of course is my exact point: By cutting Foley off, I got much more interested.

Yup. Saw the CSN portion myself last night. Olczyk was notably silent on the issue, likely not wanting to kill his NBC contract.

I will say this: he ain't wrong. There is no reason the Blackhawks/Blues should be a late game. Especially with local broadcasts still airing the first round. Either eliminate local first round coverage and properly dictate start times, or concede to normal start times so local affiliates are airing games when they should take place.
With CNBC, USA Network, NHL Network all available for back-up coverage, there's no reason that you can't cover all of the games, and start all of them at reasonable times. And at least on DirecTV, there's an NBCSN Alternate Channel available.

Overlapping games is inevitable in the first round. It's simply not possible to watch all 8 series live under any rational schedule. So the only issue is how much overlap to allow.

For the Central Time Zone, a 7:30PM start would be perfectly reasonable. 8:00PM Sharp would be fine. That gets you to 8:30 or 9:00 in the East. It's the 8:42PM local time starts that cross the line. Not that big a change to make things work for the in-house crowd.

Pat Foley is an elder statesman, and speaks with the freedom of a tenured professor. As you point out with Eddie O., others may not enjoy that luxury.

Re: NHL 2015-16: John Scott for MVP!

I don't have a problem with what Pat said, but if we get stuck with the Blues' homer announcers and the cheerleader Panger for the next two games, I'm gonna be ****ed.

Because Panger is soooo much worse than Edzo.

I'll just assume you're kidding as the alternative is...

I actually heard Pang squeal once when the Blues scored a goal. I was embarrassed for him.

Edit: So now we can't link y-tube videos?

Comcast owns NBC. No Fox Sports Stations allowed.

I guess I've gotten them through Centre Ice during the reg season.

Definitely some of the worst I've heard.

Exactly. It's going to be either NBC announcers, Comcast Sports Net rebroadcasts and CBC/HNIC simulcasts as a last resort. We'll never get NBC Sports to simulcast FSN games.

That said, nothing is preventing NBC from throwing Darren Pang money to help on NBC broadcasts, as they have in the past.

And FSN-Midwest has been simulcast in Canada on Sportsnet during these playoffs. Rogers, as I pointed out a page or two ago, has been avoiding Comcast/NBC games unless they absolutely have to. So much for the NHL's synergy between CA and US broadcast partners.

However, NBCSN has graced us with the (TSN) combo of Gord Miller and Ray Ferraro for the Wild/Stars series. I will listen to them anytime.

Kinda funny how everyone forgets that the whole idea of moving Detroit back East was games regularly ending after Midnight in Detroit. It's frustrating as he'll living in CST for this...

Someone is spoiled by having a local announcer on NBCSN constantly.

This is like a Yankees fan complaining about bias in ESPN's broadcasts.

Which is funny, since he had his cup of coffee with the Hawks. He must still be pi55ed that they put him on a bus after he complied a sparkling 4.38 GAA in his final NHL season. :p

Have you heard Pang or are you just assuming things here?

And for the playoffs, I'm good with Doc or Alberts doing the Hawks games. ;)

It's funny, when I hear Doc doing a game now, it's pretty much the soundtrack to Cup victories. :)
