Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

How's attendance in Denver?

I kid. Mostly. While that would be just, we must erase the scourge of Florida hockey, first.

The Avs won two Cups in Denver, so regardless of recent fair-weather attendance problems, it's not likely they would move back; nor should they.

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

Well, the Leafs are out of the post-season for the seventh straight season.

Kessel was a zero in last night's 3-0 loss to Carolina. No shots, no scoring chances, nothing, nada, zip.

A good metaphor for the season and the team under Burke. Wilson's gone, he should be next.

Thanks for Seguin again Toronto!

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

you aren't serious, are you?

Career 2.65 GAA and .916 SV%
That's not actually that good in today's NHL. Among goalies with 25 GP or more this season he's well in the bottom half in GAA. I mean, yeah, he's better than Dwayne Roloson, but he's still likely a career backup. Still, he introduced us to All Along The Watchtower, and for that I thank him.

The Panthers are more stable than a lot of people seem to give them credit for. While they're losing some money, their ownership group is diversified enough where they cover the team losses. Kinda like how the Wirtz empire props up the Blackhawks (to this day).

There isn't a weekly article about how the owners can't decide on lunch (ATL) or how they're trying to backdoor a multi-billionaire to move the team (PHX, every team rumored to be connected to RIM Blackberry).

They've stepped up in getting people committed to the program, unlike Atlanta.

If anything, the Islanders, Blue Jackets and Coyotes all move before the Panthers do.

And the Lightning seem pretty safe too.

How many of the goaltenders ahead of him in GAA are on playoff teams?

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

Well not the better goaltender on his own team. :p
I'd like to see the "better goaltender" traded, and have the Wild go forward next year with Harding (if they can resign him) and Hackett. Unfortunately, I don't think they'll be able to find someone to take on Backstrom's contract. If they can't sign Harding, then **** it, go with Hackett and Kuemper, and sign a veteran guy to a one year contract to split time with whichever young guy they make #1.

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

Also, there are entirely too many former Badgers in this game.

Don't worry, that's the max number of Badgers you can get in a an NHL game right now (although you can get it a lot of different ways - they seem to travel in pairs... Dallas, Montreal, Nashville, NYR, Minn, SJ all have two).

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

The Montreal Canadians have fired GM Pierre Gauthier. Presser now on TSN 990 in Montreal (right now in French). And if my French is any good, I think Bob Gainey just got the axe (TSN Tweets confirm). Serge Savard in as an advisor.

Callers in want Pierre Maguire as the replacement. Tetes de Merde!

Well, Pierre can be obnoxious in BOTH official languages.

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

Here's how bad it's going for the Leafs. Gutavsson takes a shot on the knee in the warmup and Jussi Rynnas is pressed into service with his first start against the Flyers. No backup goalie -- anyone have Shawn Hunwick's number??

And Jason Zucker (Denver) gets a traditional warm welcome from his team tonight in warmups:

Well, on the bright side, the Pens apparently have a hard time with crappy goalies too.
