It's especially impressive that the Rangers have the most points in the Eastern Conference when you consider that their offense is, you know, crap.

Their defense and Hank are clearly the difference.

This Rangers team is eerily reminding me the Boston team that won the Eastern Conference regular season and then lost in the first round of the playoffs.

Guys like Del Zotto, Stepan, McDonagh, and Girardi are having fabulous seasons.

However, I'd definitely be more comfortable if we could get another impact forward although I'm not crazy about giving up Chris Kreider and a high draft pick to do it...especially if we can't lock up said big name forward to a significant deal to make him more than just a 3-month mercenary.

I don't want to give up Dubinsky either. He may not score a lot, but he's a great person to have on the team. He's solid on the PK.

I agree. He is definitely having a down year in scoring. But ****, all of the other stuff the guy does sure helps makes the team what it is.

Reports are that the Sharks are in on Rick Nash

I've heard Couture is a non-starter, so they're talking something based around Pavelski. My response:

Paging Mr. Conklin, please pick up the white courtesy phone.

Brian Burke tells @TSN1050Drive that the club may have to assess trade market for goaltenders.

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

Well, Tuomo Ruutu is off the market. The pool of desirable forwards on the trade block just got that much thinner.

EDIT: And now I see Vermette is bound for desert. Looks like the BJs really are gunning for the full fire sale.

Maybe the Rangers won't be making a move.

Bertuzzi signs for 2 more years in Detroit, ensuring that the Wings will continue to have at least one player we all hate.

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

It sounds like you have you been reading the NY Post too much. The offense isn't that bad. The PP does suck completely, but they are acceptable at even strength. And I assume you have noticed the D?
Well right. The offense isn't actually TERRIBLE, it's just very mediocre. They've scored 2.68 goals per game, which is 12th best in the league. (The power play is 4th worst.) It's the defense and goaltending (1.93 GAA) that are carrying the team. When they come up against a good D or a hot goalie, though, you wind up with something like the loss to Pittsburgh, to which I was overreacting for effect. I don't think they need to give up all their inexpensive guys (Kreider, McDonagh, Stepan, Del Zotto) for Rick Nash or whatever other big name might be rumored, but I'd be nervous about scoring enough goals if they went into the playoffs with the team as it's presently constituted. If I'm Sather, I'd sooner kick the tires on Selanne (who's having a pretty great year, all things considered) and see if he could bring some offensive spark.

Toews involved in a minor car accident...

You really gotta wonder if Toews might be facing concussion problems now... I mean, this is a drive he's made how many times over the past few years? It really makes me wonder if there is something off about his coordination and timing.... It would be an explanation to him not producing over the past few weeks... I really do wonder if he got his bell rung and the current sit down is a result of someone on the team finally noticing something...

After seeing the story about the car accident on the NHL's site I had the exact same thought. The "day-to-day upper-body injury" that Coach Quennville says is "progressing" was fishy in the first place, especially with missing two games and being "questionable" for the ones coming up this weekend...this new story convinced me.

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

Carter dealt from Columbus to LA for Jack Johnson and a first. Yes. Jack "no one ever made me learn how to be a defensemen" Johnson.

How Columbus keeps letting Howson make moves is astounding.

So, LA took on the player with the longer contract AND the higher cap hit and STILL gave up a 1st round pick? I guess LA is that desperate for more scoring. I wonder how long Johnson will last in Columbus before he gets shipped out for other pieces.
