Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

On first view I was screaming at the TV "That was a ****ING dive!"

Not so sure after the replay.

Frickin goalie embellished though.

No way. Helmet to helmet? That could be anything from a bruise to an Ali-like concussion. I don't agree with the severity of the penalty, though.

What a ****ing clown circus.

Welcome to the WWF.

This is why the NHL is a joke. Guy lays on the ice till the desired call is made.

Oh LORDY, it's a miracle. Brother Smith has been HEEEEL-UD!

Shoulda been 2. Although, who knows? Maybe that goalie is really f'ed in the head, and is *ahem* shaking it off (and we'll see him messed up in the following days).

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

He didn't look good. I wonder if he plays the third. Total accidental hit, I can't see him laying on the ice till the penalty was called. I was expecting a bad cut or something. Maybe caught him in the windpipe or something.

Probably wasn't a charge, and probably didn't quite deserve the misconduct, but a nasty hit to be sure.

Maybe he caught Smith in his vag.

Exactly. 2, I am more than fine with. You could even flat out call it "2 for touching the goalie" and I'd be fine with it. But 5? No way. And I do wonder how clear that goalie's head is.

I couldn't believe he stayed in. How many people in the past year or so have finished the game, then been out a day or two later?

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

I'm really surprised the trainers and doctor let him keep playing. Unless he was able to demonstrate calculus skills or something like that, they need to tell him to go sit down and maybe he can come back in the third. But of course, they're never going to tell the star goalie he can't play in the playoffs, regardless of whether or not they could be costing him much more than a game in the future.

EDIT: Oh hey, REDaero just said mostly the same thing.

I'd bet he's messed up a little. How much? I dunno. But he's messed up. You just don't take a shot like that. I've taken lesser in boot hockey as a goalie, and I was cobwebby. And these guys are a bit bigger than the average person.

I don't know what happened to the quiet room-he should at least have gotten that. Maybe it's a bit of an overreaction, but perhaps they ought to just sit victims of hits to the head (intentional or otherwise) for the rest of the game on principle. If your team is halfway decent, they can survive without you for at least one game, and might save them from having to play 20, 40, 90 games without you later.
