Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Pick Your Overtime Winners!

If the Capitals, Panthers, and Senators win their series, 7 of the 8 remaining teams have never won a cup.
Hadn't noticed that, and have to admit that would be pretty cool. Though it did become just a little less likely with the goal Zajac just scored...

Oh no! Teams playing defense! How dare they try to have their opponents score less than them!

I'm kidding, there is a little bit of a slow pace with the remaining western team, but they do it well and good for them. I'm more on prezde's side here, but that's because I loathe the Hawks, Sharks and Canucks and I have a general distaste for the Red Wings.
Fair retort.

I know you get this, but rooting interest, deserving to win and entertainment value are three different things. I was only arguing entertainment value.;)

Back to the post-game show...

So hilarious.

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Pick Your Overtime Winners!

I know Florida-New Jersey has flown under the radar for obvious reasons, but it still counts!

Ooops. I've successfully ignored this series completely. I must admit, I enjoyed my night off.

Go Bruins!

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Pick Your Overtime Winners!

Based on Bradley-Terry rankings (i.e., KRACH) found here, the updated (after 4/24) most likely outcomes are:

West: LAK in 5 (100%), STL in 5 (100%), PHX in 6 (100%), NSH in 5 (100%)
East: NYR in 7 (62.5%), BOS in 7 (53.9%), NJD in 7 (54.4%), PHI in 6 (100%)

Overall winning probabilities:
West
VAN 0.00% - LAK 100.0%
STL 100.0% - SJS 0.00%
PHX 100.0% - CHI 0.00%
NSH 100.0% - DET 0.00%

East
NYR 62.5% - OTT 37.6%
BOS 53.9% - WAS 46.1%
FLA 45.6% - NJD 54.4%
PIT 0.00% - PHI 100.0%

As always, KRACH is not a perfect predictive system. In fact, it's not predictive at all; it's retrodictive. Home-ice advantage, momentum, and the like can not be accounted for reliably, so they are ignored.

Remarks: As is probably obvious from the numbers above, there is now no difference between a team's chances of winning a one and done series and winning the series in which they now find themselves. This is really rather trivial, but it's about all I have for remarks today.

Next Round possibilities:
Code:
[U]West[/U]
STL - LAK
CHI - NSH

-------------------------------------
|EAST | HOME |
